well me and some friends had this "discusion" last night, which involved "taste testing", so i'm wondering whats the fav of those who lurk here?

mine are:
Grey Goose (for about 12 years, before it became shiek)
Jack Daniels (good american classic)
and Myers's Rum - Original Dark - i love it

jack i think is self explanitory
Grey Goose is perfectly glas smooth i have had 1 vodka thats better and that was a 300 buck bottle of pure russian import
Myers's is a real nice somewhat rough but nice smooth kicker

the GG i take with ginger ale from, the Dark with coke(diet, tastes better), and the Jack is neat

i also enjoy a good scotch but no brand that tips the top, i'm not really a fan of dewers, famous grouse is good, bells is good, and a few single malts i have had before but no specific
a Good Tawny Port is really fun too, nice for an after dinner espesially with a friend of the female side of the asile, i keep a good Fontana twany in a nice dark place for those night when its wanted

so what do you guys drink?

Cider (I love it!!!), Port Wine, Vodka (with Lemon, Lime or Orange) and Rum (Preferably Myers) (with Orange or Ginger Ale(!) on ice). Also Red Wine and Sweet Wine (Beerenauslese, Eiswein) (with Gorgonzola or similar and white bread) and Tequila. Beer I only drink when socializing...

I've never really gotten into the heavy liquors. I just don't see the point of drinking a liquid that smells like a mixture of paint thinner and kerosene.

So I'll just stick with my beer fridge that's always stocked with Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

odd, i have never seen the point of drinking something that looks and smells as if its already been drunk (and in all probability tastes like it too)

Ugh. My contention is that almost all beer is just absolute swill.

I used to like Guinness but they've changed the taste of it in recent years. Nowadays I etiher go for small brewry imported english ales, or some of the Czech and polish beers. I do still have aosft spot for cider, but only proper cider not that magners/Bulmers pi**water.

I mix a mean chocolate martini.

And none of the crap they try to do in some bars and resteraunts to charge you more- no drizzling chocolate syrup in the glass or using Bailey's Irish Cream to make it look like chocolate milk!

Just vodka and creame de cocoa shaken over ice.

I'm a vodka martini drinker, and if I'm not in a classy joint I move to vodka tonic. For some reason I have to have the proper ambiance for my martini or I don't want one. Also been known to enjoy the occasional red wine

As far as beers go...Sierra Nevada Summerfest is happiness in a bottle. I just wish it was all year round. Amazing.

However, I make meads (honey wine) and its many variants, beers (mostly stouts, but the occasional ale), and cordials (that's where the vodka comes in).

Careful, never call it McCallan's in front of a Scotsman, it is called The McCallan. One of my favourites ... when I can afford it, which isn't very often.

And home-made mead rocks, been known to stew up a few demi-johns myself over the years.

I'm not much into hard stuff.
A nice glass of Braes of Glenlivet Single Malt every now and then and Vodka with banana juice or Cuba Libre on parties - that's it.
On the more soft side it's Cider, Beck's or Weissbier(e.g. Erdinger)

Premium Beer is not swill, premium beers are more like wines, in their variety and complexity.

Most commercial beer is swill, but that's because it's a watered down cheap version of what beer is supposed to be.

Even if not always drinking Premium Beers I'm usually a beer drinker, preferably Ale (room temperature fermentation with yeast floating does give amazing flavors), though I'll drink some Laagers preferably dark laagers (since the bottom dwelling yeast and cold fermentation don't yield such a complex flavor profile, at least the more-roasted malt gives more flavor).
For all of them I like hops to be an accent, not the main flavor. Even though I like the bitterness I don't like it that much. I guess it depends on the variety of hops, I dislike some IPAs (India Pale Ale, a hop-heavy kind of beer) but enjoy others.
The USA is actually blessed by the amount of microbreweries that have appeared... they brew some great stuff.
Fruit flavored beers, Belgian style, are also good (but they have to be Belgian, USA microbreweries have yet to achieve mastery of fruit juice brews). Heck, I have yet to taste a Belgian beer I dislike!

I also drink wine, and mixed drinks, and liquor by itself, and cordials (or liqueurs, if you prefer that name).
