  • New X-files!

Never thought you'd see this one coming, did you? Can someone recap the alien storyline that I completely lost track of say...mid season 5 - early season 6? haha

    From the zocalo:

Frank Spotnitz, former executive producer for THE X-FILES, confirmed on his official blog that a second movie is in the works. "It's true," Spotnitz wrote on April 17. "Several people have e-mailed to ask about reports that the second X-Files feature is finally in the works," Spotnitz wrote. "A script is indeed in development, but I'm afraid that's all I can say. Thanks for your good wishes and support all these years." Spotnitz, a longtime X-FILES producer and writer, also came up with the story for the first X-FILES movie in 1998 with series creator Chris Carter. In recent weeks, former star David Duchovny has said the second film is moving forward and that an announcement may come soon. His co-star, Gillian Anderson, has expressed interest in returning to her role as FBI Agent Dana Scully, alongside Duchovny's Fox Mulder.

Script development stage basically means a few folk have muttered about it at a local bar. It's all talk until somebody throws them a fistful of dollars to actually do it.

While I give them credit for seemingly being more serious about it then they have in the past, I agree with you. Until that sucker is going in front of a camera, I'm not gonna get too excited

Well, who knows whether they're really gonna do it or not.

Not a one from me JMS is pretty straight up with us, and always has been, so when he said the project was happening, I was 100% on board. Heck I've even been a staunch supporter of pushing the fact that Indiana Jones IV *would* happen, it was just gonna take them awhile to get it all together in the same way it took Lucas awhile to get the prequels going (And for fun, I do remember back in ye olde days on CompuServe when people were trolling around declaring that the prequels would never get made )

The difference here is that there's been a lot of talk of this kind before since the first movie came out, even before the series ended, and nothing ever came of it. So I think it's alright to be a bit skeptical on this one. I do think that the franchise was hurt by the fact that it didn't end on a high though, and went two seasons longer then it should have. I don't think any B5 fans out there who aren't fans of Season 5 have anything on X-Files fans who typically despise Seasons 8 & 9 with a passion that could destroy several small galaxies...

Not to be unfair to the Great Maker, but he's had plenty of situations where it was clear he wasn't in control of jack and it was all going in the tank (re: Crusade, Jeremiah S2, Rising Stars conclusion). He also tends to hold his yap until he has plan and bank in hand, and about to strap himself into the Producer's Hamster Wheel Generator o' Fun, no matter how many hints he gives us.

I'm all rah-rah for creators and artists getting together and re-creating the magic that they used to. X-Files is half legend and half joke, and if the old duo can get together and add to the legend bit I'm all for it. I just think it's premature talking about it when all there is is.... talk.

Wow, this would have been awesome news back a) when the show was actually still good (which was years before it even ended) and b) if anyone nowadays cared.
