There are threads elsewhere in these forums that address various elements of High Definition pictures and how they will (or maybe wont) affect BABYLON 5. There are one or two things that I would like to ask and compare with members on these pages. Are your experiences simlilar?
For reasons that will take too long (and bore the pants off anyone) if I had to try to explain them.... we have an HD TV, a region free HDMI upscaling player to watch our already vast collection of disks, a TOSHIBA HD DVD player and just recently a Sony PS3 - Blu-Ray drive.
When we went from a standard DVD to an upscaled DVD picture, the results were surprising. Our R1 copy of CARS looked incredible. Likewise LAND OF THE DEAD, the STAR WARS movies (all 6), infact anything we'd put into it (from whichever DVD region the disks came from) looked so much better - even though not actually in bona fide HD.
Then we bought the TOSHIBA. We felt that the HDMI-out actually delivered a better picture than the RGB COMP feed..so away we went. Well, what can we say. The picture took on a whole new depth and quality. KING KONG, BATMAN BEGINS, SUPERMAN RETURNS all leap of the screen at you, the neon underlighting on FAST AND FURIOUS is alive. We felt that this could not be improved upon.
Then we bought the PS3.
I hate to say it but I really do think that the Blu-ray machine knocks out a better, sharper, richer, warmer and generally more satisfying picture than the HD machine, a machine that we did not think could be bettered. Don't get me wrong. We are still going to get titles in the HD DVD format as it is still head and shoulders above the standard DVD picture. But Blu-ray has the edge.
Has anyone else had this experience? Do you totally disagree? Do you prefer the HD over Blu-ray?
What are your thoughts on the subject if any?
