  • Stargate SG-1 season 10 (spoilers)

ok i just saw season 10 ep 19 dominion, the second to last ep and i need to vent. i'm doing it here rather then scifi boards or gateworld because that are extremly negative.

and aarrrrrrrgh! i know that they had filmed thru alot of eps when the cancelation came, i know some hasty rewrites were needed. but it felt so forced

Vala on a world with implanted memories to trap adria, ball steals adria, ga'uld takes over adria, tok'ra extract eel, eel poisns adria, adria ascends. good story line. but so forced and so fast, could have been done much better

and don't get me wrong this season has had some GREAT eps. the ep Bad Guys gos right to the top, pure classic sg-1. but for the final 2 eps i was expecting better
i know there will be the 2 direct to dvd movies, i know sam is going over to atlantis and that the others or some of them will make random appearences in atlantis

    but

then again i do love SG-1, great story telling device, and does something NO other scifi show i'm familar with did. when they learned about alien tech it didn't just "back to terran basic tech" they used the tech learned. trek and b5 never did that, it was always 1 ep shots for new tech, but thats off topic.

ok i'm gona end my ramble now

That's disappointing to hear. I haven't watched the 2nd half of this season yet, and I was really happy with the first half so I was hoping for it to close with a bang. I'll still be getting the dvds

When I first heard about the series many years ago, I thought it sounded like a strange idea. The movie was interesting, but making a regular series to compete with Star Trek and B5? I also thought it sounded like a bad idea to recast the roles that James Spader and Kurt Russell had in the movie. A few years later I was abroad, and caught part of an episode on tv, and my first impression was that it looked fine, but perhaps a little dull.

Down the road I gave it another chance, and bought the first season on DVD. It didn't take long until I realized that this was a worthy competitor to all the other big sci-fi series, and I ordered several more seasons. For the past few years I've had to wait for the DVD's to come out to watch the new seasons. There were some bumps along the road, but having used geos.tv to record my votes, I can now see that the statistics prove that I've never really disliked a season. Sure, Daniel ascending, some of the crazy time or dimension episodes, and Richard Dean Anderson leaving the show, are moments that gave me doubt, and while I like Farscape, including both Ben Browder and Claudia Black in a time when the show had already reached its climax, made me uncertain about the future of the show. Once again, my doubts were uncalled for. I can honestly say that I've thoroughly enjoyed seasons 9 and 10 (that I've both watched this past month), and that both Browder and Black did a great job.

I just finished watching the last episode a few minutes ago. There's not much to say about it. If anything was disappointing about the last season, it was that some of the last episodes lead nowhere. The final two episodes did make up for that, but I would not include them on my list of favorite episodes. I agree that the second last episode felt a bit rushed, and I'm not a big fan of time travel episodes like the last one. Making such great TV for ten years is amazing though, and is well worthy of praise. Now I only hope that the TV movies will be great. There were some episodes in season 10 that I loved. The Quest was vintage SG1, and 200 made me laugh out loud several times (the PI, the Farscape imitation, the Star Trek imitation, etc).

I started watching the show when they released parts of season 1 on DVD (in 2001 or 2002). I picked up the first disc and enjoyed it. Really fun stuff. I then picked up the big box season 1. Really, really good stuff in the final episodes. But then season 2 soured me when I watched it on Sci-Fi. The show got really boring. I stopped watching before the middle of season 3.

Season 10 had a lot of flaws yes, and you could tell that it was hastily thrown together writing to try to wrap things up as best they could for the actual wrap-up. That said, it's probably the best season since 7. There were a few bad episodes, and not so many *great8 ones, but it was pretty consistently *good* all the way through. I especially like the last episode. Really neat and very different way to end a show's television run. Kinda an homage to "All Good Things" in a way too.

Lesson, yeah season 1 was interesting to begin with and got reallllly boring through season 2 and 3, just like you said. I had a hard time getting through it but my roommate implored me to go along.

That said, season 4 is excellent. Very episodic TNG like, and 5 and 7 are both up to that calibre. 6 misses something due to Daniel Jackson being gone, but is *okay*. 8-9...not so great. 10 got back to around season 6 level, from my perspective.

Again, not the best show ever. It's not meant to be taken as seriously as a lot of othe sci-fis are. It's our last remnant of pre-arc story type sci-fi though. And it's nice to get nostalgic about TNG and have something similar.

              I actually saw some one-shots from 5, 6 and 7. They weren't bad.

From what I've seen of Atlantis, I don't care for it, either.

Really tried to get into atlantis. Don't care about any of the characters or the main arc threads. It's really sad. Amanda Tapping (Samantha Carter) is going to be on it next season though, so that may help things. I'll give it another shot then.

i'll agree that atlantis doesn't grab me the same way sg-1 did. the sfx are wonderful the stories aren't that bad, and they have had some really great eps i must say. but the people don't have the right mix to really get me. McKay is the only char i can say works perfectly for me. Ronin has some potential interest but they haven't developed him enough yet. not enough facets. Tela is a yes/no the fact that shes going to be pregnant this coming season may really help, i thought the kid had potential but they wrote him out beginning season 2. Shepard again has some of that same fire that richard dean anderson did but i think they try to hard to make him RDA mark 2. with Carter coming on this coming season i'm betting there will be some good development. i'm not too sure how i feel about Weir going away. her char really seems to have alot of use.

                  well time will tell
