I was concerned about Sawyer turning over a new leaf after the "Androcles and the Lion" incident in this episode. Kate pretty much literally pulled a thorn (dart) from his paw (foot)...does this mean Sawyer will now go all sweet on Kate without the snark? Gah!

Interesting thought. You sorta want it for the character but maybe not so much for the story. If Sawyer is going to turn over a new leaf, now is probably the time. Timing is everything."If I could be a bird, I'd be a Flying Purple People Eater because then people would sing about me and I could fly down and eat them because I hate that song. " - Jack Handey

Lost Writers sign through 2010
(Repost from another bulletin board)
Variety reports that Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis who wrote last nightÆs Lost episode ôTricia Tanaka is Deadö have signed a overall deal with with Lost production company ABC Television Studio (formerly Touchstone Television) through 2010:
ôLostö co-exec producers Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz have inked a mid-seven figure overall deal that will keep them on the ABC Television Studio island through 2010.
Three-year pact calls for the scribes to continue on ôLost,ö rising to exec producers by the second year of the deal. TheyÆll also create and develop new projects for the studio.
IÆm really happy for Adam and Edward since they have proven to be great writers with a nice sense of humor. The fact that they have signed a deal through 2010 worried me a bit at first, since IÆm not sure that Lost could maintain the high quality if stretched out to 6 or 7 seasons. However, after having a closer look, the deal could just mean that they will be working for ABC television, and not necessarily on Lost until 2010.
WeÆll see what happens. Either way, IÆm happy for Adam and Ed!

Signed-throughs aren't guarantees of show survival - if Lost continues to lose viewers and gets cancelled, those contracts usually become void by default. Some networks are good about keeping their writing talent though, and the "new projects" looks promising.Radhil Trebors

Well, it took longer than most folks wanted, but I think that with last night's episode Lost is back in (almost) full stride. Locke's flashback was important and actually told us something new, the twists worked, "crazy jungle Delenn" was featured and should play a major role in several more episodes, all in all it made me glad that I've stuck with Lost throughout this less than stellar season. Keep it going writers!

I loved last nights episode, top notch entertainment. Alot of people seem to be down on lost as of late, i think it is still as good as before, i agree that it has been a bit slower, but it has never been one to reveal alot. People keep talking about how the ratings have slid, but it hasnt really been anything drastic, plus it was announced yesterday that Lost was picked up for a fourth season.
Every show that is structured like that, Alias, Lost, BSG .. they all suffered ratings slides, unfortunatly that is the fate of shows that are as complex as those.

Yeah, the intricately plotted shows always suffer the ratings slide, but sometimes it's heavily deserved. Alias took so many bizarre turns in an effort to preserve the "structure" of Sydney going out, kicking ass, and dropping a cliff in your face... and in the end, it cost them everything that made the show good. The finale of Alias after five(?) seasons was basically resolving every good plot that had been introduced way back in seasons one and two, and had been in a holding loop of reintroduction/revelation/double-cross/revenge/name-change/reincarnation. Same plot recycled over three and a half seasons, just to milk Garner's rising star power. I hate that they did that to that show. It started so great (see also: 24).
Why did I get into an Alias rant.... oh yeah... Lost
Lost showed every sign of starting to do this in season 2. And that's more or less as long as you can get away with it, is one season of Just One More Secret. Seriously, how many hatches did we eventually go through, all with little or no connection to anything else? Well, it paid the price in the ratings. Now I kept the faith, because I always liked the personal bits of the show. I'm glad I did, because the last few episodes were awesome. Locke is back in rare form, doing things only Locke can do; Charlie always with some kind of little shadow; Sawyer pissing them all off; Hurley being Hurley; Jack finally being more than Locke's more logical foil. I still feel Eko had far more to do, but you can't have perfection. My point is that the last few eps really tell me what previous dreck I was starting to slog through, in the wake of the show's fear of making Just More Jungle Shots. The writers haven't even shown us anything truly factual and yet you get a far better sense of what Dharma might have been, what the island still might be, and where the whole situation will end up.
And I'm glad.
Shutting up now.Radhil Trebors

Last night's episode might have been a "stand alone" one and didn't really advance what passes for a plot, but it was a lot of fun. It was almost a "Twilight Zone" or O. Henry sort of story. I also enjoyed seeing flashbacks all the way back to the day of the crash. A very nice little episode.

This was probably the strongest episode of the season. Looks like we will get all of the Losties back in one place just in time for the end of season 3. I hope that the strength of the last three episodes is a good sign for the rest of the year. I also hope that folks who have taken a break from Lost come back. It has been good enough lately that it deserves to be watched again.
