I enoyed the first nine books, so much so I went out and paid full price for book 10 in hardback something I almos tnever do (or didn't a tthe time, my wages have gone up about 25% now and most of my debts are paid off so I Can afford to indulge myself) but nothing happens in book 10, nowt zip nadda. Book nine give sthe impression tha teverything wil be tied up in book ten but nope, feic all happens.
I was so disgusted I walked away from the series and will come back to it when I know it's finished.

I'm telling you phaze, you need to pick up book 11. It starts finishing the series which will happen in book 12 and there is one scene that brought me to tears. Of course when he will be well enough to write the last book is an open question although he is responding to the chemo therapy he has been getting.Originally posted by phazedout View PostComment

As I mentioned before, that is really up in the air since he was diagnosed with his illness (a rare blood disease called amyloidosis) and having to deal with that still chemo thing. the way it seems to read is that he has a full outline, and that he is currently writing albeit slowly, the question has been raised about who would be able to finish the series if he were to die before the end.
i wouldn't expect the book to be published untill the end of 2007 at the absolute earliest. i have a nasty feeling it'll be a 1500 plus pager
may i ask what part brought you to tears?
i also agree, book 11 is really the setting the final stage.
just a few things to go before the end, the rescue of the "Gandolf" stlye char from another dimention. (i almost hope this is the first part of the book with non of the others coming into it)
the attack of the white tower (as predicted)
the taming of the black tower (foreshadowed)
the final coming togeather before the march to the final battle (classic style)

There were always certain things nagging at the back of my head when I was reading this series
#1 - Why the heck do 95% of the characters have to be so insufferably arrogant? It always seems as if everyone in the book has they're head so firmly shoved up their own *** they cannot see daylight to save their life.
#2 - The pacing in which these books were written is atrocious. Why the hell does it take a whole page for a character to pick up a pencil or for one line of conversation to take place? It gets to a point where I think it's just ridiculous.
As a kid, I read these books and at the time I thought they were pretty cool. Maybe the first 5 or 6 ones. But past a certain point this series did start lagging / going in ultra-slow motion.
They are still readable however, and it can be fun to read them, but you got to have an awfully big tolerance to stomach all of the problems in this series.Comment

basically hes trying to write as if these were real people. what is thier personal motivation, would they run from embrace this fate etc
to a more basic point, having both read and listened to these i think they were more enjoyable to listen to.
Robert Jordan hand picked the 2 readers himself and they do a good job
however i can see why people woildn't want to wait for the full 10 odd gbs to download. but it is worth itComment

I started reading the Wheel of Time series about 5 years ago. I read all of the current volumes, 1 - 8. The first 4 books were great, I loved how they would deal with a certain part of the world, have antagonists that were specifically for that book and that alot was wrapped up by the end of the book. Enough so that when it came to having to wait another 2 years for a book, that you could do it.
After book 4, things started to slow down in pacing, I started to have alot of issues with how things were progressing. But I made it through all of them, and eagerly awaited the release of book 9. During books 9 and 10 the series just lost me, things came to a standstill, alot of it was obvious setup for the last book. I have heard that book 11 does a better job, but I just havent managed to get myself interested in it enough to read it.
As far as books 11 and eventually 12 go .. I will wait until the series officially wraps before reading the remainder of the books, and considering Robert Jordans disease, who knows if that will even happen. He was going to write one big book, followed by a smaller prequel book and do that until the series finished, but since being diagnosed he has dropped the prequel books in favor of finishing the main storyline. ( other than New Spring, which came out before his diagnosis )Comment

actully my understanding is that due to the illness he is puting all the other writing projects aside so as to leave the main sequence books finished IF he pops off. however it is my understanding (reading blog etc) that he intends to write the prequals after he finishes a memory of light (he plans to live for many years) as a fan of the books i want the mainline finished and am selfish enough to admit it. as a person i hope he gets well(or as well as possible) and has a good life.
and the FAN of reading in gernearl totally approves that even with such a major dramatic event in his life he is going to finish what he started. That is an amazing thing. so many other pwople would have said "fuck it" and not given the fans this effortComment
