February 7th is this week. It's yesterday. This would be what they recorded 1/31. Whatever they did last night would be posted 2/14, etc.

So Maggie was interviewed last week, eh? The podcast went online last night, I've listened to the whole thing, and they don't have any interview with it.
well as i went thru all 11 of the main sequence books in order after it was up to 11 (i'm not counting new spring, its a prequal and therefore not part opf the main) i will agree that several of the middle books were a little stagnent, however they did resolve certain threads leading to the final battle that will take place in "A memory of Light" which Mr. Jordan is currently writing (while going back and forth from mayo, which is quite a distance) now having searched thru wiki and dragonmount.com i can't find ANYWHERE that he has said the series will be 13 books.
I stand corrected. I was writing that off of the top of my head and thought the number was 13, but I checked dragonmount today and saw it was 12. Thanks for correcting that for me.
First off Mr. Jordan said that it would be 13 books shortly after the last book was released. Secondly, he was diagnosed with amyloidosis in march of last year and has been going back and forth to the Mayo Clinic for Chemotherapy through out this past year. So let's cut the guy a bit of slack

so where did 13 come from?
on the otherhand he has said he intends to live long enough to write all the books he has in mind and that should be quite a few years
back to the series
it is a trully epic story for the survival of a world
Book 1: The Eye of the World - very tolkienesque intentionally so, good story, and played with some of the basic ideas of fantasy twisting them a bit
Book 2: The Great Hunt - this is about the mental states of people thrown into these situations, very very well told
Book 3: The Dragon Reborn - felt very Dune like to me, enjoyable
Book 4: The Shadow Rising - again very dunelike, advances the overall story quite a bit
Book 5: The Fires of Heaven - this one is about the upheval such events cuase the world in general, and advances the overall story by building up power bases. also the loss of the leading magic user
Book 6: Lord of Chaos - ok this one was too long
Book 7: A Crown of Swords - again powerbases, could argue that certain parts were unneeded
Book 8: The Path of Daggers - this one was a bit annoying
Book 9: Winter's Heart - the main point here was to remove the taint from sidin(sp?) also the style of the writing is diffrent, an experiment gone wrong i think
Book 10: Crossroads of Twilight - this one is the push to the end, this is where bits and peices really start to get laid on the board for the final battle
Book 11: Knife of Dreams - really pushes to the end, clearing up alot of story points
I'll cut the guy some slack, but I'm not cutting the books any. When that series started it was outstanding. The first four were some of the best I've read, period. The rest were utter garbage with brief moments of old glory. Jordan's Wheel of Time is probably the best example I've ever seen of ungodly wasted potential, even outrunning Tad Williams.
I hope the guy gets better, truly. I'd really like him to write something great again.
I'll agree with you that the middle books we a lot of nothing happening. I have to say though that his last book was pretty good and moved the story along to its impending conclusion.

He's going to finish it immediately after it stops being a cash cow and enough people realize he hasn't advance the plot in three books.

well lets see.
HP - summer
jonathan kellerman - floats between oct and feb
anne mccaffrey - about 1 every 4 months or so
elizabeth moon - (arc in the fall) released in winter
robin cook - all over the place
david weber - all over the place
stephen baxter - all over the place but does tend to be spring/summer
robert jordan - all over the place
I have no idea why "book season" is the summer. About 4 series (as of today)I try to follow all come out in July, and now is the time I want to curl up inside, well away from NY wind chills. Crazy.

Dunno about the others but in the case of HP it's just due to the fact that on the very same date ten years ago the first book came out, if I remember what was said on the radio yesterday correctly.
Come to think of it, maybe it's because publishers think that during summertime while people lay on the beaches or in the gardens to catch some tan they'd want to read a good book.
