Originally posted by thebaron View PostFirst off Mr. Jordan said that it would be 13 books shortly after the last book was released. Secondly, he was diagnosed with amyloidosis in march of last year and has been going back and forth to the Mayo Clinic for Chemotherapy through out this past year. So let's cut the guy a bit of slack
so where did 13 come from?
on the otherhand he has said he intends to live long enough to write all the books he has in mind and that should be quite a few years
back to the series
it is a trully epic story for the survival of a world
Book 1: The Eye of the World - very tolkienesque intentionally so, good story, and played with some of the basic ideas of fantasy twisting them a bit
Book 2: The Great Hunt - this is about the mental states of people thrown into these situations, very very well told
Book 3: The Dragon Reborn - felt very Dune like to me, enjoyable
Book 4: The Shadow Rising - again very dunelike, advances the overall story quite a bit
Book 5: The Fires of Heaven - this one is about the upheval such events cuase the world in general, and advances the overall story by building up power bases. also the loss of the leading magic user
Book 6: Lord of Chaos - ok this one was too long
Book 7: A Crown of Swords - again powerbases, could argue that certain parts were unneeded
Book 8: The Path of Daggers - this one was a bit annoying
Book 9: Winter's Heart - the main point here was to remove the taint from sidin(sp?) also the style of the writing is diffrent, an experiment gone wrong i think
Book 10: Crossroads of Twilight - this one is the push to the end, this is where bits and peices really start to get laid on the board for the final battle
Book 11: Knife of Dreams - really pushes to the end, clearing up alot of story points

So Maggie was interviewed last week, eh? The podcast went online last night, I've listened to the whole thing, and they don't have any interview with it.

on the "not from what I can gather anyway" ID"There are no good wars. War is always the worst possible way to resolve differences. It degenerates and corrupts both sides to ever more sordid levels of existence, in their need to gain an advantage over the enemy. Those actively involved in combat are almost always damaged goods for the rest of their lives. If their bodies don't bear scars, their minds do, ofttimes both. Many have said it before, but it can't be said to enough, war is hell. "

on the "not from what I can gather anyway" IDIt's yesterday. This would be what they recorded 1/31. Whatever they did last night would be posted 2/14, etc.
