California woman competing for a Nintendo Wii died of water intoxication

    Updated: 3:50 a.m. ET Jan 17, 2007

SACRAMENTO, California - A radio station fired 10 employees, including its three morning disc jockeys, after a woman died following an on-air water-drinking contest last week.

The hosts of KDND-FM's "Morning Rave" were fired Tuesday, a day after the station said it was suspending the show and investigating the death of Jennifer Lea Strange.
What the hell is up with these people?!

    1. The station was dumb for doing it.
    2. The contestants were dumb for doing it.
    3. So who won...?
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

I hate most radio DJs. From the looks of these guys (based upon their page on the radio station website - which I'm sure has been removed by now), this show looked like your typical morning zoo radio program. Of course, the also employed a Hole, to ensure that the two male DJs never actually got off-color and said anything, you know, actually funny or entertaining.

But yeah, you knew as soon as this story broke that these guys were so fired.

Stern stopped being relavent / funny at least 10 years ago. But he is a great con artist, as he managed to grift Sirius out of what will (by the time his contract runs out) be over half a BILLION dollars, even though Sirius is lying about / inflating their sub numbers and are losing a tremendous amount of subs every month.

Excuse me!? Did you just call the female DJ a "Hole"?!

I don't know that they're losing subscriptions, but it's been in every business rag out there that neither satellite radio company has turned a profit yet. I doubt Stern's contract, no matter his draw rate, is helping matters for Sirius.

And yeah, writing was on the wall for the idiots that put this together. Probably thought they were clever, hell, NO one's done this... whodathunk there was a reason...

Yes. I'm using some insider lingo there.

Honestly, with what they've paid Howard (and agreed to pay him in the future), I don't know how Sirius is still in business. XM seems to be doing markedly better, probably because they got into the new car market first.

Do they have simpler versions of satellite radio now? Anything handheld?

Both Sirius and XM have some sort of handheld model now, I believe. Haven't really investigated as I don't have call for one myself.

Well Sirius' subscriber base has grown from aprox 600,000 in October 2004 when they announced they had signed Stern to around 6.2 million at the end of 2006. (And before you even start complaining that those numbers are false KV, please provide some credible, independant information to back up your claim.)

Sirius is also reportedly dominating the retail sector of satellite radios by about two to one. Both companies are growing, it's just that Sirius is doing so at a much larger rate.

one thing I haven't been able to find out about either service- Can you subscribe just for the internet service without having to buy any hardware?

Nope - at least on the XM end. You subscribe for the internet feed once you already have a paid account. No way around it.
