  • CBS Discussing New Trek Animated Series

There's an article about what it entails. It looks like they want to try to keep trek alive, and I think that concept for the series is pretty interesting if they go through with it. Far more interesting than I've seen in trek for a long time.

Do you guys think this is a good idea? And second, I never saw the original animated series. Was it any good/should I bother picking up dvds?

The original animated series was decent. Shatner and company voiced it and the stories were similar to the style seen in TOS, albeit some or most of them the bad ones. If you like TOS then go for it.

This new series sound like pure crap. Nice way to undo everything that has been done with the Romulans.
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

Im not liking the idea myself.... As much as i would like trek to continue on... the trek universe was not created to be dark. Sure, they had a few "alternate" dimensions... but trek was about a happy time with happy thoughts. Now i enjoy darker Sci-Fi, but i don't think you can do dark sci-fi and stay true to what trek was about. Maybe im silly in that thinking, but i would rather have a new sci-fi cartoon with the exact same premise... just not in the Trek universe. If that is the only way to keep trek alive, maybe it should just be left alone.

You guys make some good points. Trek really isn't dark, and they've taken it in a wrong direction in order to be "cool." Which, just feels stupid. However...all they've done with the Romulans is kinda ruin them, in my opinion. Especially with the last movie. This is set 150 years in the future though, so it's perfectly reasonable to assume a lot happened in the between time.

Now was that a pun regarding J.J. Abrams?

I have heard of this announcement and just read the article from TrekTodayà I just donÆt know what to make of it. I also watched "How William Shatner Changed the World" and it kind of sealed the Star Trek deal for meà The one thing that I donÆt want them to do is force any new show down our throats. Right now I have a wait and see attitude.

what i really want is a new trek set far enough after then voyager/ds9/tng timeline that it doesn't have to reference too much. the galexy is after all a huge place in which to set stories. though i hope that if and when there is a new trek who ever "they" may be will get good writers

actully i share the thought, but in all honesty i think a 3 or 4 part mini series would be best, something to finally tie up the prophet/sisko story line and of course the 30 or 40 other minor parts that could use clearing up

Yup, but I don't think that's going to happen either. It's too late. Too bad the whole "mini series wrap up" thing wasn't done back then.

                          true enough
though i have no idea what avery brooks is doing these days, i kept hoping he'd show up in one of the stargates or on battle star galactica or perhaps smallville in a recuring role sine i doubt hell end up in doctor who or torchwood (though i would LOVE it if he became the doctors compainon for a season or 2)

and as thats the extend of the tv i watch on anything like a regular basis i have no idea what any of the ds9/voyager/tng actors have been upto

i also though that it would be great if jerry doyle showed up on BSG regularly too

And I have to say that if a series has had seven whole seasons and a proper, planned finale and still hasn't managed to wrap up important storylines, it doesn't deserve an extra mini-series to tie it up.

Last I saw of Avery Brooks, he was in IBM commercials. I have no idea...I'm gonna go to IMDB and take a look.

It'd be great if either of those guys would show up for one of the new sci-fi shows.
