  • Deep Discount DVD Fox B1G1 Free Sale

No, I don't work for Deep Discount DVD, I'm just a customer. But I just received an e-mail announcing a terrific sale that I think a lot of genre fans will love:

Buy one, get one (of equal or lesser value) free on already discounted Fox boxed sets including TV series like Buffy, Angel, X-Files, Dark Angel and The Outer Limits (original series) as well as movie sets like the 4 Alien films. More mainstream offerings include everything from multiple seasons of The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Hill Street Blues to the Clint Eastwood "Man with No Name" collection and The French Connection.

Earlier this year I took advantage of a similar promotion to buy all six seasons of the Highlander series for at total of just under $90 USD(with free shipping) When that series debuted on DVD it went for over $100 per season. I had always wanted it, but it was too pricey. This time there are so many sets I'd like to own that I can't get them all. But I'll be thinking hard about both seasons of Dead Like Me for about $28.00 or the 2nd and 3rd seasons of NYPD Blue for $30.00.

    Later,

Dead Like Me is good. JDM, do they like have the Fox DVDs listed?
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

      Cool, Joe, thanks.

Now see? All the spammers need to do is have a post count of several hundred and they can post links, too.

Jeremiah season 1 is also on sale. So's Roswell, Millenium, StarGate SG1 (not Atlantis), and a couple hundred other titles.

I watched most of DLM when HDNet started running it in hi-def a few months ago, then finished when a friend lent me the discs. I wanted to buy them, but they were a little pricey at the time. All of the discs and sets on that page are distributed on DVD by Fox and they're all part of the promotion.

Oh, sweet, Arrested Development. I was going to go for those on Black Friday, but they were out of the first season.

            I suggest:

            Dead Like Me
            Futurama
            The Shield

The Shield contends with BSG (2004) as my favorite show ever. If you like arcs and good drama, then The Shield is for you.

I cannot recommend this series highly enough.

I never saw it when it was on Showtime. I heard about it from others, but never gave it a chance, which was pretty silly of me. I didn't catch it until skiffy started showing it recently.

Right away, I recognized the diner set from its use in StarGate SG1. There are so many great guest stars, and the humor is perfect. It's a great series, and if I didn't already know I'll be unwrapping a set of them for christmas in a few weeks, I'd be buying copies. (I may do it anyway lol).

This sale is going through the 15th of December, so you've got a couple weeks, and they do put stuff on backorder, so if they run out, you'll still get your order, just a little slower. (just saying that, cuz my last order got delayed a few days cuz they ran out, but got more in ... with such a great price, I had no problem with it)

That happened with my Highlander order as well, but, as like you say, "at that price..."

It was a little frustrating because several season were back ordered and they came back in stock in no particular order. My first shipment consisted of season 2 and 6. Then I got season 3. Then season 5. Finally the last shipment arrived with seasons 1 and 4. But I really couldn't complain because some people paid six times as much for the complete set and had to wait for it to trickle out over a couple of years if memory serves.

Dead Like Me is great. I really kills me that it never made it past season 3. The show started good and just got better. Toward the end they were raising some very interesting questions about the rules the show had establshed for the dead and the living, and George's place in the grand scheme of things as well as Rube's. (Didn't the wanted poster look like Mandy Patinkin? What happen to "the living don't see the real face of a Reaper?" Why was George the only Reaper who could clearly see the Gravelings? Who did she destroy one? How was she able to see two of them while still alive, as a little girl?)

I'm also thinking about several other series, but like I said, even at these prices I'm on a budget and can't buy everything. (Man, but The Shield rocks! ) I have to rank shows by cost, and by how likely I am to watch them over and over again. I'm enjoying Arrested Development on HDNet, recording every episode on the DVR, but I don't think it is the kind of thing I'm going to want to see repeatedly. B5, sure. I just did go through the original CSI from S1 to S6 (skipping a few episodes, and sometimes fast-forwarding through "B" stories I didn't like so much) and I'm sure I'll do that again. But even though I also like CSI: NY and sometimes even watch CSI: Miaim, I wouldn't want to own either of them.

Damn it. If I had a credit card, I could get the Die Hard Trilogy, The Sidney Poitier Collection, The Sabata Trilogy, or the Futurama sets

It degenerates and corrupts both sides to ever more sordid levels of existence, in their need to gain an advantage over the enemy. Those actively involved in combat are almost always damaged goods for the rest of their lives. If their bodies don't bear scars, their minds do, ofttimes both. Many have said it before, but it can't be said to enough, war is hell. "

No, there was no season 3. I'm an idiot. I think I was trying to decide on whether to phrase that "never made it to season 3" or "never made it past season 2" and somehow combined them in the cruelest possible way.

(This is another one of those shows where I wish TPTB could at least have ponied up for a couple of extra episodes or a TV movie to provide some kind of conclusion. I suspect this may become more common for shows with elements of a continuing story line, now that we're in the age of TV-on-DVD and pay-per download. Fox shot a few extra episodes of Vanished to tie-up loose ends, which are being made available for free download and will obviously be on the DVD release. For shows the networks just drop it might make sense for the studios to continue with a TV movie or a few extra episodes anyway, since that would give people an extra incentive to buy the DVDs. Alas it is too late for shows like John Doe, Dead Like Me and that SF show on TNT about the spaceship. What was that callled again? )

Peter: Everybody I've got bad news. We've been cancelled.
Lois: Oh no Peter! How could they do that?
Peter: Well unfortuantely Lois, there's just no more room on the schedule. We just gotta accept the fact that FOX has to make room for terrific shows like Dark Angel, Titus, Undeclared, Action, That 80's Show, Wonder Falls, Fast Lane, Andy Richter Controls The Universe, Skin, Girl's Club, Cracking Up, The Pitts, Firefly, Get Real, Freaky Links, Wanda At Large, Costello, The Lone Gunman, A Minute with Stan Hooper, Normal Ohio, Pasadena, Harsh Realm, Keen Eddy, The Street, American Embassy, Cedric The Entertainer, The Tick, Louie, And Greg The Bunny....
                            Lois: Is there no hope?
Peter: Well I suppose if ALL those shows go down the tubes we might have a shot.
