  • Anyone Get A Wii or PS3?

This weekend was the birth of next generation for the console cycle, just curious if anyone picked these up. I picked up a Wii on sunday, and it's one of the most fun things I've ever experienced.

I heard a lot of reports of violence over the PS3 launch, yikes! Little bit different crowd than the nintendo. Probably because they're going for $2k+ on ebay.

No, I'm waiting for the gunfire to die down. ("I'm goin' for a PS3. Cover me!")

(Actually I've never owned a dedicated game system and have no plans for buying either. )

I've only heard about a couple of actual cases of violence regarding the PS3, mostly fisticuffs in line or in the store as people grab for the last one. There was something about a guy getting beat up in a parking lot, but apparently he was a suspect in a crime who was running from cops and tried to hide in a pre-opening crowd of shoppers. Either the cops wrestled him to the ground or the crowd (some of whom had radios) realized who he was and adminstered a beat-down before the cops arrived. In any case, his injuries were not directly PS3-related.

With the PS3, no. Only one game has my interest and that's Metal Gear Solid 4. However, I'm not the type of person to spend 500-600 dollars for a brand-new system that has only 1 game I want to play on it, and that game doesn't come out for another year. At least.

As for the Revolution (It will always be the Revolution to me not the Wii), no. I tried out Excite Truck at a gamestore, and it was interesting. I then looked at the upcoming games and none of them screamed to me must-play games. The virtual console is a neat feature, but thanks to the internet I've had perfectly working NES, SNES, and Genesis emulators and roms for the past 8 years.

But I think the birth of this current generation started last year, when the Xbox 360 came out. Now that system is an eventual purchase for me. Gears of War is a spectacular game, but I don't buy a system for one game. I'll wait till Alan Wake, Bioshock, Blue Dragon, Mass Effect, and Too Human are released. Then I'll get a 360 with those games and Gears of War. Plus the Xbox Live Arcade will get Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and maybe Dracula X: Rondo of Blood.

Of course those ROMs are backups of the ones you own, right?

These aren't the ROMs you're looking for

Oh no! That's gotta be the most frustrating thing I've ever heard. It's one thing to be far back in line and miss it, but another to be the first person to do so.

As far as those who say there's no games...Zelda is really one of the most top notch games I've played in a long time. It's so fresh and new, but keeping with the tradition of the Zelda line.

The PS3 really doesn't have much to offer, in my opinion. Unless you want an adrenaline boost when you're getting robbed.

Really? I've wasted a good few weeks of life on those. Pity.

Was kinda psyched for this one too, especially since I get to swing a "sword hilt" around like an idiot. Ah well, I'll get the second shipment. I just pray it gets into stores before Friday, not on - I'm in no shape to play aisle football with NY thug mothers.

Being a bit of a Resident Evil fan I skipped the PS2 to get a Gamecube (taken in by the so called exclusivity deal...I should have known better after going for the dreamcast for simular reasons).

I've got alot of games that I haven't played fully yet so I'm in no real hurry and after hearing about the problems with backwards compatibility on early releases of the PS3 (not to mention a high starter price) I'll wait till they iron out the problems before entertaining the cross over to the Brevel Toaster.

I missed out on all the Silent Hill sequels going for the Gamecube and would only get a PS3 if it played them too.

Wii (Wee means the same as pee in Britain) has a fun control system and could inject a bit of physical exercise into gaming but I'd proberbly injure myself whirling around in my little living room.

Also the better half isn't a game fan and would proberbly whirl the Wii out of me if I A) spent large dollops of cash on a 'luxury' item and B) if I whirled my Wii wands around the living room while he was making a living.

Everyone is complaining that PS2 games don't work well on the 3, which is too bad because there aren't really games out for the PS3 right now.

The Wii has continued to be a lot of fun for me, and I haven't gotten tired using the controls at all. It's a lot easier of motions than it sounds like.

Also...wee means the same thing over here I've already used up my quotient of junior high jokes for the Wiik though as I've called people saying "Do you want to come over and I'll show you my Wii?"

                      Call me immature.

I thought it was pronounced "why".

Which would have prompted an obvious question.

I suppose it's correct pronounciation also prompts the question "Why wee?"

Also living in Scotland where wee also mean tiny, one I imagine, could legitimately ask a friend over for a go on ones wee Wii.

(Wee Wee is an even more childish varient of piddle over here)

I have noooo idea why they decided to name it the Wii. They've made puns themselves naming controllers "Wii-motes" and naming the user profiles "Mii." The original name was "The Revolution" which I thought was a killer name, but I don't get it.

One of my friends came up with an answer, shrugging: "They're Japanese."

                            Alternative Explanation

Actual reason, according to a few interviews made with the marketing madmen over there, is that they really wanted to pun "We" as in a gaming system for everybody, with the two "ii" for little stick figures, for many people. These yokels had no idea they had named a system after a toddler's name for piss, and that the more kiddy they made the name - "ii" - the worse it got.

Haha..that's a pretty funny comic. I guess that explanation of the game makes sense, but I would have prefered revolution, and so I think a lot of people would have.
