non-B5 B5 music ...

Until a few days ago, I had never heard of Tenchi. It is apparently some kind of Anime.

Chris Franke, who did all the B5 music, also did the soundtrack to the Tenchi movie. While I was at CD Tradepost the other day, the clerk came up to me and asked "Hey, aren't you that Babylon guy?" I laughed and said yeah. He asked if I had this cd. He'd been waiting for me to come in, and held it for me.

I saw it was by Franke, and since it was only 6 bucks, bought it. And boy, am I glad I did.

It's a fun blend of B5 music (some of the themes from the series and used in this cd) and Japanese music. Kinda half and half.

I've recently been working my way through all the Resident Evil (Biohazard) games.

I've been there before, naturally, but my previous attempt ended in a scenes reminiscent of a hybrid bad seed child of a Brian Wicks farce and a Greek tragedy ( OK, so it was more a dark warped soap opera revolving around a group of adults posessed with the combined emotional and social maturity of a techno urchin barely scratching at the threshold of puberty but I digress...).

The music that accompanies the final quest segment of Code Veronica is strikingly like a B5 theme...hell, it practicly is THE B5 theme!

But it isn't Christopher Franke, here it is by the way.

See what I mean... sure it could do with a bit more of a flourish here and there from the BPO but it sent shivers down my spine while I was playing the game.

That's really all that I wanted to say on the subject but I've find I've uncovered much more of my private life than should be publically published.

P.S. If you find yourself in the throws of a messy domestic break up please, please resist the urge to overwipe your other half's memory card blocks to make room for your latest virtual roller coaster creation (especially if you are breaking up with me!)...Oh the humanity!!

If you're a Franke fan, I would suggest volume one or two of New Music for Films, which will give you a very good cross-section of music. Also, Enchanting Nature is one of the best chill-out albums in my collection. I'm less enthused about Klemania, The London Concert or the soundtracks to Perry Rhodan or The Celestine Prophesy. And if you enjoy Franke's work as part of Tangerine Dream, the soundtracks for Thief, Risky Business and Miracle Mile are must-haves. There's also a wonderful boxed set of Tangerine Dream called Tangents, which will give you the absolute best of the group.

Last winter I went in the woods with the album "Poland" in the player... and it was one of the deepest moments in my life. The trees had that kind of frost on them, where ice is upon ice, until it resembles little branches. The music gave the whole experience an almost religious touch.

Erm... If you're a Franke-fan you should listen to Tangerine Dream's 'Ricochet' and 'Phaedra'. Preferably while not doing anything, in a dimly lit room, and if at all (semi-)legal, with something to smoke...
