So, I saw the five eps of Children of Earth. Veeeery good one that, if you ignore a story flaw or two.
I'll probably even use "We are coming!" as a new ring tone.

Well I for one am quite glad that there will, in fact, be a fourth season. I know that the third was cut down to 5 eps - for whatever reason - and that the next will have a full compliment of episodes.

    There will need to be
new blood though, seeing as that after Jack left Earth to run away and hide in self pity, TORCHWOOD as an institute is just Gwen on her own.

Damn! I completely missed out on that! Luckily I know someone who has most probably taped it...

Also I just read that a 4th season (this time a full 13 ep season) has been greenlit. Even though I'm not a big fan I think I'm gonna watch it. Just out of curiousity not expecting anything overly fancy.

I thought Torchwood: Children of Earth, which was a 5 days/5 episode special from last summer, was excellent - and one of the most compelling aliens ever!

If you see Season 1 of Torchwood and aren't impressed (I'm lukewarm on it myself) then do still give CoE a try, it's a whole different feel and level of menace.

Like I said in the SG:U thread: Best be watching and drawing your own conclusions. Although in the case of Torchwood I have to say that overall I liked it much better than SG:U. It gives you a good picture of Captain Jack outside his short appearances in the original series, while SG:U features a protagonist of the SG-1 series just for trying to make the old fanbois feel like it's really Stargate franchise.
But remember that it was cancelled after season 2...

So...I'm just catching up with doctor who now (on the 2nd series of the reboot) is Torchwood worth watching and throwing into the mix?

Well, the final espisode of season 1 was quite nice. Especially the final 2 minutes after Jack mentioned the right kind of doctor.
And yes, the sexual behaviour is getting on my nerves as well.

edit: I'm through with season 2 as far as it gets now. The improvement to season 1 is like 100%. Only the kissing stuff is a remaining source of annoyance.
But I liked that they brought in Martha Jones and James Marsters. I just love it when he's playing dirty.

I can't stand the show on the whole (though admit to getting a bizarre 'rubberneck at an accident' thrill out of watching the worst episodes).

Once in a while a good one pops in but it's largely a mystery why I keep watching it (but I do).

Ashes To Ashes is much better and please, please BBC make a series out of the one off Being Human.

Oh, I will definitely watch season 2. But first I'll finish off the second half of the Doctor's season 3 and Voyage of the Damned.

And yes, Countrycide was one of the better episodes.

It's funny how everyone seems to agree that Torchwood's first season was uneven, yet everyone has differing opinions as to which were the good episodes. Personally, I liked "Countrycide" even though I'm not a fan of the recent spate of Hollywood horror films that seem to have inspired it.

Even when an episode wasn't the cream of the crop, I thought that there were at least some interesting ideas, no matter how badly executed.

I've only seen the first four of season two so far. (Should get to 5 and 6 this week sometime.) I really liked "Meat" as a stand alone story.

Lyta, I felt the same way about season one. I felt there were some outright bad stories, while others felt they were so obviously derived from other shows. Needless to say, I was not all that anxious to jump into season two, but so far, I've been very pleasantly surprised. Having seen the first half of season two, there hasn't been an episode that was not at least watchable and a couple have been extremely good. I still object to the gratuitous sexual behavior, not because I'm a prude but because they feel more like a child shouting a curse word just for the sake of saying it, but that said, I'm prepared to ignore them as a minor annoyance. But I would happily recommend season two to anybody; it's nowhere near as good as some of the best SF television you've seen, but it's certainly better than a good deal of content we're given these days.

Well, I am almost through the first season (only ep 12 & 13) remaining, and I have to say that I'm less than impressed. Actually, with the exception of the fairy tale-, the killing suzie- and the cyberwoman epsisode I found it quite boring. I had to fast forward through most of em to not fall asleep.
I know it would be flat out stupid to compare it to the Doctor, so I wont. But even without any comparison, as a series of it's own, it's lame. I hope the season finale makes up for the rest, and that in season two it gets better.

I've just finished watching season 1 of Torchwood and thought it to be pretty good compared to the absolute lack of other sci-fi shows that the networks aren't interested in
Yes there's been a few ep's where it's dam obvious they're derivitive from other sources & "Combat" was a bad example of poor writing IMO and in all honesty, should not have been made into an ep as "Fight Club" covered that territory about angry young males wanting to pound & get beaten up far better than Torchwood could ever hope to acheive.

    The 1st 4 ep's of s2 have been good as well....so far

Captain John (James Marsters) set up the story arc in episode one when he announced to Jack that he had found Gray, as he was stepping back into the rift. Meant nothing at the time, but has now been nicely built on with what happened in Ep5 (Adam).

Loved seeing Martha again in Ep6 (Reset ... thank you BBC3), and it was great to see Alan Dale in there as well.

Loved the first season almost in spite of myself, and I think the show is now properly finding its feet in season 2.

If it continues along those lines, I would be happy to continue watching.

Regarding the story arc, I was interviewing head writer Chris Chibnall a week or so ago, and I asked him about that. Here's part of his response:

"I think when you see episode five, thereÆs a lot about Gray, so youÆll find out a lot more. ItÆs in few episodes, but itÆs not in all of them, which was very deliberate. It gives a spine to the season without it being in every episode."

That should make watching episode five (which airs on BBC America here in the States on Saturday) worth watching.
I gave the show up after the first episode last season but for some reason I decided to give it a second chance this season (watching via BBCA) and I have been interested in the show.

I was wondering what the arc was going to be and I actually thought it was going to be an invasion arc with the aliens from episode 2 but it looks like I am wrong.
