Torchwood - SPOILERS

Episode 4 is a return to bad form with just about every cyborg storyline you've ever seen (from Frankenstein to Buffy via Seven of Nine) thrown up like a Friday night kebab in Newport.

Even the basic plot (person with half cybernised loved one creates merry havok trying to save them) has recently been handled better in the Big Finish audio "The Gathering" (no not that "The Gathering").

P J Hammond's frightful fairyfolk had better be handled well or this show won't even be missed when it's cancelled.

i don't know, i found it rather amusing after all it was holloween, and while the ep could have been written by any 13 year old in the western world it was still amusing, i mean the teradactyl fight was hysterical, and we had certain char development points as well. so it wasn't csi like, after watching the episode about the alien that must fuck everything it could in as little time as possible, what were you expecting milton?

Although I agree with previous posts regarding the derivation of the Cyber-Woman episode, the one that struck me even more was episode two, the-alien-host-screwing-and-killing-her-lovers episode, which had already been done in the Outer Limits episode 'Caught in the Act' with Alyssa Milano a few years ago. Not to mention Species to a certain extent, as well as an episode of Sliders with Kari Wuhrer as the host. I know there's an old saying that there's no such thing as a new idea, but didn't anybody raise their hand and point out that this one had already been done to death? In a manner of speaking that is.

i think the objection comes from the well done to the could have been done much much better

ep 2 was well done, ep 4 was, well it could have been done better (i still enjoyed it)

Well, I am really enjoying Torchwood ... sure some of it is derivative but what isn't these days? I think RTD has already laid his cards firmly on the table with both DW and Torchwood. They are designed to be "cool" and enjoyable television first and innovative SF a distant second.

A big part of me is also rejoicing that finally we have a SF series made in Britain whose production values are worthy of the name. The one common theme running through all the shows and films mentioned as ... ahem ... influences on TW's first few eps is that they are all American.

If Torchwood achieves nothing else, I only hope it convinces the BBC, ITV, C4, Five and Sky that there is an appetite for well-made, home-grown SF on our TV screens.

I have been watching the episodes, and have to say that I like the show. I am a big fan of the new Dr who show, and when I learned that the spin off had begun to air, I checked them out. Definatly different from Dr Who, but in a good way. Some of the 'adult' humor is a bit out there, but its all about giving the show time. From what I understand, Torchwood has very good ratings for BBC3, so it should be back for a second season, and I am sure it would improve quality wise.

I've just checked, ep 5 is on tonight so unless they pull another double ep it won't end before the Dr who xmas special. I thought they would dovetail the two nicely into each other.

fascinating ep tonight, brillant, extremly well done, in fact i think its the best of the 5 so far

oh and i loved the doctor who reference to the Mara (evil entity that possesed teagen on davidsons run) though i am willing to bet that more then half the audience completly missed it

we learned a few things in this ep, mainly that jack has traveled thru other earth time periods then just ww2 and that he infact spent several years in the ww2 period rather then just a few months to set up hus con of any "time agents"
my question is jack imortal since rose brought him back to life, not just the can't be killed thing but actully immortal
and if so from 200000 years in the future how did he come backwards, was he dumped 100 or more years ago or was the flashback from 1909 from when he had the ability to time travel, and does he still have the ability to time travel (if only very imperfectly) does that also mean he has it only on earth(remeber the space station was orbiting earth)

i also get this really odd feeling that for this seasons finale or sometime next season the doctor is going to make a short visit, probably not but the ep really gave me that feeling

I really enjoyed it(managed to persuade my sciu-fi disliking tennant to sit through as he'd been watching History channel all day).
The only way I can watch BBC3 is live - a very strange experience for me as I almost always experience TV through either DVD or PVR. Since BBC don't have ads (over here anyway, not sure about BBC america) 'twas OK.
