I have to say, I wasn't overwhelmed with season one, but there have definitely been a few bright spots this season, starting with the 'blowfish scene' that opens episode one, and I thought 'Meat' was a superb episode, capturing just about everything I thought the series should be. If it continues along those lines, I would be happy to continue watching.

Regarding the story arc, I was interviewing head writer Chris Chibnall a week or so ago, and I asked him about that. Here's part of his response:

"I think when you see episode five, thereÆs a lot about Gray, so youÆll find out a lot more. ItÆs in few episodes, but itÆs not in all of them, which was very deliberate. It gives a spine to the season without it being in every episode."

That should make watching episode five (which airs on BBC America here in the States on Saturday) worth watching.

Season two is up and running. What are people's thoughts?

I've seen the first four so far. Not bad, but I'm hoping to see the emergence of a storyarc sometime soon.

    And just for fun- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGGTfuM1RGM

    (Love the van!)

I hope in all sincerity that there isn't a rapist bone in my body regardless of my access to alien aftershave (Christmas presents...mmm).

with access to alien tech (not anything you can think of but the random bits and peices) are you telling me you WOULDN'T use it anyway you can?

There were a couple of good episodes in the first series. "The Ghost Machine" was good, the PJ Hammond one with the fairies and every scene with Billis Manger (possibly the best Whoniverse villain ever) just crackled with creepy goodness.

But it did seem to me (generally) to be written for 14 year olds who have just discovered nawty werdz by 14 year olds who have just discovered nawty werdz.

The second series will have to do a lot better to get my attention.

It was during the second season, IIRC, that Sliders creator Trace Torme got the boot by Fox and creatively the series never recovered. If you're morbidly curious, I would suggest maybe renting them through NetFlix, but its not really worth dropping 20 bucks on IMO.

I picked up the first and second seasons of Sliders (one set, only $19.99 at Wal-Mart) a few months ago. The first season was fun, but the second is markedly bad. I heard that they eventually set up an arc involving some kind of enemy. I am very unimpressed with the second season. The third season just got stocked at Wal-Mart...buy or no buy?

While I generally liked the series, it was uneven in spots. Hopefully, the next series will be a bit more cohesive.

I was away over the Christmas break so what did you make of the last shows?

I, on the whole liked the last three.

    Still a bit borrowed though.

"Combat" was more than a little "Fight Club"ish.

"Captain Jack Harkness" was a bit like the X-Files episode set on the Queen Mary.

And "End of Days" was very "Ghostbusters".

But Bilis is a great character which I hope to see more of in Doctor Who and it's various spin offs.

I've never seen the film "Ghost" so I actually found this weeks episode suprisingly good.

The other half spent the duration 'itchin for a bitchin' and when it was finished shouted out "This week it's Ghost!!".

I noticed more than a tadsworth of similarity between "Random Shoes" and "Love and Monsters" but until I happen across a paticular Patrick Swayse vehicle I can't honestly moan too much about this weeks.

Mainly because the core characters hardly get any screentime at all and Gwen has reverted to her "pre-doing it with toadface Owen" almost borderline sympathetic self. (Did Owen use the date rape aftershave on her too?)
