  • SG1 Slated for 2 staight to DVD movies!

Well it looks like everyone's following B5's lead. It was reported yesterday that after season 10, SG1 will make 2 straight to DVD movies, one to finish up the Ori storyline within the show itself, and the second one "will involve time travel." They've supposedly received pretty nice budgets. It looks like B5 started yet another trend in sci-fi

So SG1 *was* kinda brought back woo!

    odd,
I thought of it as following Farscapes lead, perhaps Ben or Claudia suggested wrap-up movies following thei experiences with PK wars.

"There are no good wars. War is always the worst possible way to resolve differences. It degenerates and corrupts both sides to ever more sordid levels of existence, in their need to gain an advantage over the enemy. Those actively involved in combat are almost always damaged goods for the rest of their lives. If their bodies don't bear scars, their minds do, ofttimes both. Many have said it before, but it can't be said to enough, war is hell. "

      The Farscape stuff wasn't direct-to-DVD.
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

I meant in terms of the "wrap up movies" bit LiM, not the direct to DVD. Th distribution method was secondary to my point, which perhaps I should have been clearer on.

Eh, Farscape Season 5 was a death-by-shotgun-driveby kind of experience. The word that the show was cancelled was recieved less than a week before the finale aired, let alone written and produced. It made the wrap movie more of a requirement that the producers had to fight for to have any kind of closure.

The SG-1 cancellation was more like death by degrees. They had plenty of time to wrap up any storylines they wanted. I'm not against more SG-1 but this smells more of a cash-grab more than a story-wrap.

I may be wrong, since I don't follow the 'Gates terribly closely but I thought I'd read that they got the news with only 10 episodes left to be *shown*, I don't know how many left to be filmed. As you may recall, they'd already wrapped up all the story lines once, only to end up with new seasons. So which policy is better, to go episodic every season or to hope that the new storylines would foster renewal?

Haha..this was my thread from a month ago and i just left it hanging. Just noticed it.

Anyway, Stargate is *extremely* episodic. They tend to only really further the plots of things in their mid-season two parter, and the season finale/premire. I like it, it's much in the vein of TNG, which is something we don't see anymore. Granted, it's more storyline oriented in season 9-10, but you can still just pick it up for the most part anywhere. No news on the stargate front since this deal. I hope they get picked up for 11, though it's not lookin like it.

I just started watching Atlantis. It's very good, star trek like. I like how they even make fun of the fact that Shepherd is like Kirk.

When it first aired i too didn't like the 4th season (it had only 4 seasons not 5), but about a year ago i saw it again and its pretty damn good!

There was supposed to be a fifth - at the end of Season 3 Farscape was hot and was given a two-season renewal deal. At least it was published and pressed that way. It was only after Season 4's numbers were underwhelming and a bunch of internal bickering at SciFi that even I can't trace that the fifth season cancelled, and rather absurdly and underhandedly at that. That's what I meant there.

The miniseries was pretty much the entire Farscape Season 5 Plan compressed down from twenty-two hours to four.

i would have loved to get the full 5 season of farscape, with the compression for tpkw it screwed with continuity, but since it was obvious hat there was no choice i do not complain, however i really would like to see soemhting like b5:tlt for farscape and maybe for sg-1

no to the topic, i'm actully very happy to hear that season 10 will end on a cliffhanger, it gives (minor) chance to a season 11 since mgm has been shopping for other outlets and networks for the show, or maybe sci-fi will get its thumb out, i feel that we could get another 20 or so really high quality eps that also wrap up the many many internal threads.

like haley(the smart chick who sam hated) could end up on atlantis working with mckay, the jaffa could have a real unified presence, earth could actull show a real offworld colony not just a military base

                    etc
                    etc
                    etc
but to be fair while i do really enjoy the ori storyline 10 seasons is an amazing run for anything these days, wit this current 6th season of smallville they are really moving up to a point that will either end the show or turn into "superman, the first years" as in fully in the persona of Supes and not clark but that would appear to be a diffrent thread topic i think

Only thing about this, is I was reading somewhere that the contract between SciFi and MGM had some kind of clause in it that prohibited the making of another season of episodes by anyone else...

I was reading today that Stargate SG1 has made it into the Guinness Book of Records...
The series is featured in the new 2007 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records, under the 'TV Personalities' section. The show is honored as the 'Longest Consecutive Running Sci Fi TV Show'.
Is there something I'm missing, or is there a reason why Doctor Who isn't named as the longest?

Doctor Who is probably the longest running, but it's not the longest running consecutive.

Actually new episodes can be done but SCIFI owns the broadcast rights(SG-1 franchise) in USA. It is possible to do episodes outside USA and broadcast them too by another network in another country. But like i said in USA it's not possible because SCIFI doesn't want to do season 11. I have read somewhere that SCIFI did not want to pay MGM same mount of money for season 11 and MGM did not accept lower pile of money so SCIFI cancelled the show.

But 2 DVD's are coming in future and maybe new spinoff series after that.

..... *sigh* OK, (a) continuously (b) the show must really be bending time and space to run consecutive years since 1963 ( 27 seasons time-bent over 43 years since it started means Britain has created a happy little time rift of their own ).

FWIW to those who insist, Doctor Who is listed as the longest running sci-fi show by Guiness. So, there, everybody be happy.
