  • Pimp our space station

Sure the ISS isn't the most cuting edge thing you have ever seen but damn its its the only space station we have so I'm happy to see the new Solar Panals have beem installed.

If anyone is intrested Space.com has nice lowdown of the whole mission. Also here is the link to Nasa Webpage on the mission. I personally find space.com to be a lot easier to find information.

    and some nice pictures

I'm very happy to see a progress in the assembly myself! Exciting times!

Even if there are many critics of the station; sometimes, when there's a clear sky at night, watching the ISS passing above my head, a mysterious feeling gets over me: a mixture of joy and excitement, with a hint of doubt: that we might make it after all in the Universe.

Reading today how in the next 10+ Years about 20+ nations will gain nuclear potential, and how it would change the way politic is played out... thinking about how mankind begins to colonize the galaxy kinda sickens me... I hope the whole idea of war (esp. with nuclear or worse weapons) is a dying concept, but hope is all I have left in that regard.

On the other hand, self destruction could very well be the reason why we never encountered any aliens... or our potential for self destruction could very well be the reason aliens never contacted us (kinda like a "red flag", I'd guess). Or - and that would be reason alone for abandonment of war, if nothing else - we are the only "intelligent" (that needs to be proven, thou) live in the universe. So I don't know if I should rejoyce when thinking about how we might (most likely WILL) destroy ourselves or watch in horror...

But still, the little steps we take - like the ISS, which is a project (mostly) by Russia and the US, which where arch-enemies some years ago - give a little light of hope.

I have that site bookmarked at work and check it every day. That's the first thing I do when I get in, after getting my coffee, that is
Flying around the room under my own power.

And here's an alternative (doesn't need Java installed): Heavens-Above.

Well, for the non-suspicious among us, it probably has to do with them both (in theory at least) being cross-platform standards. Java, unfortunately, less so than PDF since Microsoft fell out with Sun.

PDFs also have the added advantage of being more practically portable than HTML pages, and (done properly) looking the same on whatever computer you use to view them. It is also much easier to create a PDF than an HTML page and can be done from whatever software you happen to be using at the time.
