  • Support the Hobbit!

Ok this one is for any Lord of the Rings fans out there. I was on 'The Gateway' just now and saw this link Hobbit Support Site

They appear to be in the midst of a letter writing campaign to get the wheels turning. I know The Hobbit is a film I'd like to see so I shall be doing my bit to help.

I do wonder how old that site and campaign is though, since the response from New Line states that Peter Jackson is totally occupied with King Kong at the moment, and is likely to be so for the next 24 months.

    It clearly isn't current.

Maybe he's doing Son of Kong next or...(gulp) King Kong Lives.

I wouldn't mind if he decided to redo King Kong Vs Godzilla. Imagine of freakin' intense those fights would be!

Last I read, Jackson is producing a Halo movie sometime in the near future.

I am kind of burned out on LotR.
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

I had the same thoughts. And I then decided it did not matter if the site had not been updated. We know the film has not been made yet, so the information is still valid.

Besides, there is no time limit to this kind of thing. In theory the campaign wont end until the film gets made. Anyhow, maybe a few more letters would swing the balance - who knows?

I do think it matters if the site is not updated, e.g. the addresses might not work anymore, the persons in charge may have changed, etc.
And of course, an isolated postcard will do little, it's when they pour in noticeably and continuously that things might happen.

If you check their mailing list archives < http://www.thehobbitfilm.com/pipermail/hobbit_announce/ > it seems that the campaign has been dead for a long time...

I do recognize something quite good about this campaign as compared to typical ones: they do ask for physical postcards/letters to be sent ( that online petitions work is nothing but an internet legend ).

But if the people behind the campaign don't bother to update the page I won't assume that the campaign is ongoing... and I don't care enough about this to email them and ask what's up.
Such... is the respect paid to science that the most absurd opinions may become current, provided they are expressed in language, the sound of which recalls some well-known scientific phrase

Good point, but its a good place to start.

Which is exactly the point of this thread. To spread the word.

So what's wrong with trying again? You have nothing to loose.

I agree somewhat, but it does give you an idea of activity on the site. I signed it 2 days ago when I started this thread. I received a comfirmation e-mail with my petition number 35155. Today I noticed that its gone up to number 35603. That means that in 2 days, 448 more people have viewed and signed !!! Now if just half of them are writing letters in.....

So, do you mean, only they can decide when we should post letters?

Ah, I see the problem. Thanks for your opinion

Ah, we don't need a new movie of The Hobbitt. That animated version is pretty perfect as is...

Yeah, 'cause we never needed Spiderman/Superman/X-men/Batman/ films did we? And for that matter, The Lord of the Rings books are 100 times better than the films, they were not needed either
