The story is set in the year 2007. A routine shuttle mission becomes extraordinary when, without warning, the crew watches helplessly as Earth becomes a fireball and explodes. The surviving five-person crew of the Odyssey -- including astronauts Chuck Taggart (Peter Weller) and his son Neil (Christopher Gorham), Angela Perry (Tamara Craig Thomas), geneticist Kurt Mendel (Sebastian Roche) and TV newswoman Sarah Forbes (Leslie Silva) -- are rescued by an inorganic being, dubbed The Seeker. The Seeker has witnessed the same fate on 50 other worlds, and while he is unable to facilitate physical time travel, he has the power to send the crew's consciousnesses back five years in time, so they can try and prevent Earth's destruction.

Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.
