  • Season TWO Doctor Who - SPOILERS

For those who are ahead of the US viewers.

    Thanks Jan!

Here's a question for those of us watching season 2-

Are the mentions of the Torchwood Institute that we've seen so far leading to some payoff we'll see on Doctor Who or is it just some layering for the spinoff series coming later this year?

Myself, I'm hoping that it'll payoff in the current series in a story that'll end with the setup for the spinoff in place.

Well, I had my suspicions, especially since I know who/what's showing up in the finale, but have been trying to avoid major spoilers. (Don't worry Joe, I'm not considering your post too spoilerific for my blood )

Will there be somemore definition of how Torchwood works and what seperates it from UNIT?

From what I understand, part of Torchwood's brief is the acquisition of and research into the use of alien technology. I don't think that's giving anything away, considering Torchwood's use of alien tech at the end of 'The Christmas Invasion.'

Someone speculated over on the IMDB boards that Torchwood will somehow be accidentally responsable for the incursion of the Cybermen and the Geilth in the last two episodes.

                  cybermen part two

                  So,

what didi people here think of it? I found the music quite intrusive, and his use of the charged up bit of the tardis to eliminate them smacked somewhat of "Deus Ex Machina".
I', sure both the code and the van reg can be plugged into teh BBcs series of spinoff web sites to access content, I've just not chcked it yet.

Kind of depends what you read and where you read it.

One school of thought goes with the Geith thing, allied with the Cybermen, whether or not those are "our" Universe's Cybermen, or the parallel version I've no idea, but Cybercontroller Lumic makes another appearance, that's "Army of Ghosts", in "Doomsday" time and space itself is going all to hell, supposedly.

The other story I read was pretty much the same, except no Geith, the parallel Cybermen have managed to get themselves a time/space ship and enter our universe, except not being experts, they screw up, and time and space goes all to hell, and this is where things get ludicrous; the Daleks (yes, the ones that are supposedly all gone. Twice.) appear and war erupts between them and the Cybermen........and it's possible that the Timelords aren't quite as dead as was assumed

Don't blame me if any or all of the above turns out to be untrue

Yup, although they are actually called 'Gelth', which may be the root of your confusion.

While "Pyramid Of Mars" is one of my all time favorite sories, I just don't see RTD going that far back into the show's history for a major/season-ender villian...

Tool Pusher has got it right; I'm just not going to tell you which bits! But I'm always a bit surprised by the fans who start these goofy rumors about characters from the distant past. Russell T. Davies may be a huge fan of the original series, and probably knows more about Doctor Who than just about anybody, but he's enough of a realist to know that a big chunk of his viewership comes to the series without all that baggage from the original incarnation. So don't expect gratuitous appearances from the past unless there's a damn good reason for it, such as Sarah Jane in 'School Reunion,' or the Cybermen because, well, they're cool.
