        When the problems get much worse after a country leaves, how in the heck is it anybody but the country in question's fault?         One cannot speak for someone else, so 'We the people of the United States' makes perfect sense. It does not automatically imply that the rest of the declaration is therefor meant for only Americans. Actually, given the history behind it, it would surprise me if the founding fathers did not mean the declaration to be truly universal.
        And BASIC INTERNATIONAL LAW dictates that the laws of one country do not apply to ALL countries. They apply ONLY TO THE COUNTRY THAT PASSES THEM.

              • The Declaration of Independence was the document created by the 13 British colonies in North America who chose to separate themselves from the British Empire in the latter half of the 18th century. Who else would it apply to? India? The British colonies in Africa?

                With regard to immigration, any country in the world has the right to limit the number of people who enter the country, or even have no limits. Those who sneak across borders in the back of a U-haul, in the trailers of semis, or behind the dashboard of a Honda Civic aren't acting like the immigrants from the 19th century. The latter did the unthinkable: they followed the law.

                  I have read about the history of MÚxico, and I keep current with the news about the country. See I have the advantage of being bilingual, so I can read the Mexican newspapers and watch the Mexican news programs (ever heard of Azteca America? The news on that one comes almost straight out of MÚxico, less filtered than what you'd get from Univisi¾n or Telemundo). I also read the (scarce) news about MÚxico in English language newspapers, of course.
                  So tell me... what book are you talking about that left you with so biased a view? What "cursory glances" you've read that have only reinforced your biases? Some links to back up what you say?

                    Border Patrol officials say as many as 20 shots fired at agents near Brownsville, Texas, originated from Mexico in the most recent of a series of incidents involving gunplay and other violence directed at Americans from south of the Rio Grande River.
                    Meanwhile, a week ago a Border Patrol agent near San Diego shot and killed Guillermo MartÝnez, "a known people smuggler who had been detained 11 times prior," agency spokesman Raul Martinez told The Associated Press.
                    Now we're starting to do it right.



                    Now, I am not anti-immigrant. Hell, if I was from another country, I'd LOVE to live in the USA. But do it LEGALLY. And don't come here to leech off of us. If you come to America, come here to be an American.

                    Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

                      That last line there, I can fully agree with. I have the same feeling about certain immigrant-groups here in The Netherlands. I would have to assume that anyone can become an American citizen though, and I don't know if that is the case.

                              Even though some think it's more fun if you don't back up what you say I like to do it.

                              And about being "american"....
                              Have I ever mentioned that in the Latin part of "the Americas" americano usually stands for someone from the northenmost Canadian iceberg to Tierra del Fuego? Mexicans (I know for sure, I think most other latins also do) tend to use "estadounidense" (roughly translated to "united stater") for what USAnians (and most everyone in the rest of the world) call simply "american". Interesting, sometimes amusing, how the distinction is usually very deliberate.
                              BTW, I first found the term USAnian in a book about the history of Physical Chemistry, a Brittish chemist from the 18th century was fond of the term.

                                Based on a timeline of how many years? If 1890 was a cool year, being warmer than that is hardly proof of "warming" being anything more than a cyclical event --- which, mind you, it has always been.

                                Also, figures are based on measurements of how good an accuracy?

                                Where were these measurements done? How many cities? How many different locales?

                                How many measurements are done in cities, where glass and asphault increase readings artificially?

                                And why would the temps dip between 1999 and 2001?

                                Why did temps dip in the 20's and 30's?

                                In fact, I'll make you a prediction: land use (building of cities) will have more impact on global temperatures than anything atmospheric.

                                Funny, no mention of Republicans trying to disenfranchise people, trying to starve the elderly, supporting the murder of gays, etc. I guess THOSE aren't really insults.

                                Gee, I haven't seen a Republican that said voting for a Democrat will lead to a nuclear war, as an LBJ ad CLEARLY said about Goldwater. I haven't seen a Democrat compared to a Nazi, as House candidate Colleen Rowley did to HER opponent on her website just this week.
