Saladin was also a cruel bastard who was infamous for slaughtering his Christian prisoners, even after they peacefully surrendered.

He was far worse than we Americans are, to our enemies in the War on Terror, and yet in this movie he's presented as the noble champion of his people.

It's her site. "Freedom of Speach" is the right of a citizen, not a guest in somebody's home or website or blog or bbs. Her site is her own space, just as her own living room is. It's up to her to decide what she'll tolerate in her own space. If they want to exercise freedom of speach, let them find a street corner or spout off in their own space. If she requires a civil form of discourse in hers, more power to her. Maybe if the signal to noise ratio was lowered some actual communication can take place.

Let me put it to you this way - some of the content on her site deserved to be censored.

When you have jackasses eagerly cheering on for the death of Bush / Cheney, for example, it's time you do a little eating of your own.

Yes, it's true, but it wasn't typical of Saladin's overall character. He had a warrior-to-warrior respect for Richard. It doesn't make up for the massacres he committed. Saladin was no different from the rest of his butchering brethren.

It's that moral relativism and flat out fiction in "historical" movies.

Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

i find it interesting that Ariana Huffington is taking so much flack for removing hate filled posts from her blog site.
its her site and it purpose is to talk about political events of the day ina somewhat rational manner, not have treats and regret and hate posts toword someone. every other site i know of (thats worth reading) edits out remorks like the ones she removed but people are bashing her for "not upholding free speach" and the like

          shameful
(not that all her political ideas are sound, but she makes alot more sense then ann coulter)
She didn't get heat for removing them. She got heat for having a site so laden with hate that those comments were the norm and not the exception.

And, honestly, Coulter could intellectually mop the floor with the woman whose only claim to fame is being the "wife" of a mind-numbed simpleton. The next intelligent thought Arianna has will be her first.

          • And for laughs, what icon of peace made the following statements (no answering LiM or Vyce)?

"I do not consider Hitler to be as bad as he is depicted. He is showing an ability that is amazing and seems to be gaining his victories without much bloodshed."

ôThe Jews should have offered themselves to the butcherÆs knife. They should have thrown themselves into the sea from cliffs." (in reference to the Holocausr)

            • Oh, you are so sly! Liberals have the monopoly on the arts and we conservatives got redneck Nascar and wrasslin', huh? Utterly ridiculous and far from reality.
*shrug* I make fun of the conversation really. You yourself said if it wasn't a best picture liberal blowjob it was always in another category. Given the absurd amount of awards I'm sure there's something to offend you everywhere. So why pretend we're serious here?

Ayup. Not his finest moment. Then, nor after. He had his theories on violence, and he stuck by them. I can admire that somewhat. Wouldn't have worked, had Germany turned his way, but hell, world would've burned by then anyhow.

I no longer watch movies based on Alan Moore comics. I learned my lesson painfully with From Hell.
Oh gods. I actually just saw V for Vendetta. What goddamn tripe. They slaughtered that story. If you nuts want to point to this for liberal bias - you haven't done much good exampling yet - I'll march in step. Only one moment in the whole damn thing they didn't manage to butcher. Jesus H. Christ.

And now they're doing Watchmen? Burn the studios. Sow it with salt. Next they'll think they can do Sandman, and then I'll really be pissed.

Was it when Natalie Portman does a barrel roll? That was my favorite scene, for obvious reasons.

Gandhi was a coward and a scumbag. He had nothing to do with any of the world's success in its fight against evil.

Movies will never be direct translations of books, comics, cartoons, etc. But hey, is that a direct insult hurled in my direction. Wow, at least I have the decency to insult through proxy.

Yeah, no duh. There's a difference between decent translation - say Lord of the Rings, something I can appreciate in either form, despite direct injections of Arwen into the plot - and zero respect for any original meaning in the book, comic, etc.

You wouldn't take a Batman story and have him act like - let's go for broke with random topic crossing here - Gandhi for an act, would you? Protest the Joker?

More or less what I think happened to V, to a degree. I still don't know what the hell that ending was about. Ugh.

first i happened to enjoy V. for what it was. a good movie, the same way i enjoyed 300 or sin city.
however what seems to be the issue here is that books like V, like Watchmen, like God Loves Man Kills (the basis for the second x-men movie) were MAJOR events in the comic/graphic novel worlds. these stories and others CHANGED those worlds in extremly signifigant manners and when something that important is translated into another medium for MASS marketing it will change the overall effect of any story

good adaptions of books/stories that i know of are only 4 - Lord of the rings, Hunt for red october, Casino royale, and Interview with a vampire. these 4 are the only ones i can think of where the story was esentially that same, where nothing MAJOR to the story was really lost (yes everything has to be trimmed for the screen, who wants to spent 12 hours in a movie theater)

There are 4 movies in development now of books that have been extremly important to me and if they go tits up i expect to just as pissed if not more so. but its hard to adabpt anything to a diffrent format then what it was made for in the first place

(the 4 movies in the works are: Rendevoius with Rama, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, Ender's Game/Ender's Shadow, The Dragonriders of Pern)

Yeah, classic. Considering that fact that western civilization brought forth the most advancements in technology and art ever, I'd say it's a classic example of abject moronism.

Ya know, I'd love to see a film adaptation of Michael Crichton's State of Fear, about how a left wing government "takes over." It'd be a breath of fresh air. I would welcome some changes from the novel, however, as Crichton has become more and more erratic in his writing in recent years.
