  • Sinbad films (the sailor) films

So, I have this strange desire to re-watch the Sinbad films, I have fond memories of them as a kid and the Harryhausen stop motion effects are awesome. Anyone got a favourite, no idea how they fare...

    So, we have:

The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958)
The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973)
Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977)

Might just watch them all! Did anyone else love these films?

That is a very strange coincidence. I don't recall ever watching the films, but I just got The 7TH Voyage of Sinbad (1958) on Blu-Ray from a friend of mine. I was planning to watch it this week.

I rewatched it today. It's kinda terrible but great at the same time. Very charming swashbuckling adventure.

Well I wouldn't say it was terrible, but I will say there was one terrible moment. I know it is just supposed to be fun, but the fact that not one person questioned who was behind the Princess' problem REALLY annoyed me. I enjoyed turning my brain off and watching the rest of it, but that moment was just too ridiculous. I am thinking of it from the point of writing the script and script approval. Everything they had written to that point should have thrown up huge red flags when it came to everyone overreacting and not reacting to what actually happened in that scenario. I enjoyed the movie, but that moment just sticks in my mind as the definite low light.

I would say the highlight for me was that they went through the trouble to make the puzzle of the dragon leash. I thought that was great. And I loved Sokurah. I think Sinbad should have been more in awe of his castle. I would have loved for more of the movie to have taken place in and around that castle.

Haha, yes... SURPRISE! EVIL WIZARD IS EVIL!

Yeah, I had fun with it. Not going to overthink a Sinbad film. Will watch the rest of the films at some point. They're all online if you look around a bit.

I can't think of the The 7th Voyage of Sinbad without thinking of Jack the Giant Killer. And I can't think of the latter film without thinking of the wonderful Rifftrax version. Here's a sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9waV1JMO8nw
