Underworld 4 News ***SPOILERS***

Kate Beckinsale has now been confirmed as reprising her role as Selene in Underworld 4, but the biggest news in the announcement is who's rewriting the script.

Comic book icon and screenwriter J. Michael Straczynski has rewritten an original draft by The Shield's John Hlavin.

Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment are currently seeking a director for the film, as well as an actress to play the role of Selene's daughter.

Underworld 4 start filming this March in Vancouver.

Cool! Now I'll have a bigger incentive to catch up on those movies. I saw the first and then got lazy about watching the others.

The movies are basically a giant rip-off of the World of Darkness RPG setting. They even got sued over it.

The first one is decent action stuff with some structural issues, the second one is absurd and has logic holes the size of a Vorlon planetbuster, and the third one (nicknamed "Lies of the Rycans" or "Rice of the Lycans" in our home) is painfully boring and idiotically bad. None of the films have characters that are anything other than caricatures, and every scene is basically stolen from another movie.

If JMS manages to give the characters some depth and the story some elements that are actually original, the series might finally have a good entry.

The first one is fun in a "Kate Beckinsale wearing a leather catsuit" and "Bill Nighy playing a vampire" kind of way. Didn't enthuse me enough to bother watching the others though.

I really am torn in love for JMS vs. not wanting to watch another Underworld movie.

Meh... I'm not watching any more Vampire movies unless there's Malkavians in it.

They're the only Vampires I identify with, and they always leave them out!

Hahaha - absolutly true! The only good thing in this movie is a hot Kate Beckinsale ^^

Actually that flic was one of two I simply HAD to turn off after a while due to not being able to watch any more of that crap!

With a JMS script the fourth might well be worth watching though...

The screenplay is written by J. Michael Straczynski (ôBabylon 5,ö ôChangelingö). The Swedish directors Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein (ôStorm,ö ôShelterö) are directing the film.

Screen Gems will be handling the distribution for the film. It will be in theaters on January 20 next year. ...

I enjoyed the first one, the second was well not good so I haven't bothered watching the third. With JMS on board I'm definitely interested in seeing the 4th one. Don't know if I'll bother with the third in the series after reading comments above.
