  • A rumor and a comment -

I heard scuttlebutt that the new mini series will depict a "Young " Sheridan and perhaps the Dilgar war.

I am not in favor of this in any way, shape or form. Im a huuuuge fan of the series, and would probably watch a B5 related product if it was just paint drying in the Zoccolo . But enough time has passed since the end of the show that I truely feel that the only way to reignite BROAD interest in B5 would be some or all of the original cast participating in an event that That took place after he Main Arc's end. The Telepath War being the most desireable , in my opinion.

You couldn't do Star Trek , the Next Generation, in 1977, even though there was still a strong cult following for the original series. I feel the same about B5 right now. We need a revitalization of the original premise, the characters, what made me fall in love with the show in the first place, and then perhaps a building upon the mythos later.

    Just wondering what others think...

I would have thought that Sherriden was too young to fight in the Dilgar war. Wasn't it Garibaldi's dad that fought in that war. Sherriden would be a generation too young.

Honestly? I think that a lot of people are speculating and that I won't form an opinion until we know for certain what the project is.

And even if I knew for sure that that's what the project was, I'd tend to trust JMS' storytelling instincts. Remember, he's not necessarily interested in revitalizing it or continuing the series because the story he wanted to tell *has* been told. Anything else is extra from his point of view.

Just out of curiosity, where did you hear the scuttlebutt?

Where else? another chat room. Its more than likely just somebody's "Great Idea" that they ginned out there to cause a dust up.

As for JMS not having any interest in revitilizing the series..... whether he does or not, I sure as heck have an interest in it. As well as apparently quite a few others, seeing as how the DVD sales are going.

Does it have to be the Exact series? hell no. I would have LOVED to see Crusade continue and end.

But for This Mini, Im jonsing for a fix of some Garabaldi/Ivanova/Franklin reparte'. I don't want to see "Past" or "future". I want my cast!

I feel like such a wet blanket but...we don't even know that it's a miniseries yet. That seems to be what the majority of us would like to see but we don't really have any clue.

Me, I think it'd be totally cool to have a theatrical release and have it in IMAX format.

Sheridan would have been 16 at the time of the Dilgar War. A bit too young to join EarthForce, which he didn't join until he was about 19-20, well after the Dilgar War was over.

And I think it's pretty much safe to say that anyone who has any idea what this project is about isn't going to talk about it, so there's really no need to pay rumours any heed or mind.

A movie would be peachy keen with me as well, But it stands to reason that the project will more than likely be TV related, and hopefully a Mini and not a "sci fi channel exclusive event."

Just because he was too young to join the Earthforce, doesn't mean he can't be in the mini. Or take part in the war. Can you say "Wiz kid steals spaceship and saves the day"?

No, I don't think that's the story, but it COULD be.

                  oh, god, please no.

No offense, but I can't see John Sheridan becoming Wesley Crusher. Ever.

Or even worse than Wesley Crusher: Anakin in Ep. I...

Anyway, with the rule of "no robots nor cute kids, ever" it sounds impossible.

Yeah, JMS has already done as much as he can to make people "real" so to speak, which is why great acts that these people are indeed so grand. Which is why such an idea of him getting involved is not only out there, but also kinda makes a few of us sick I'm sure ;-) And yeah, Episode 1 is an excellent example of how godawful such young vigilantism can be. Uck, I'm getting sick just thinking about it ;P

Anyways, of all the tales JMS has talked about doing, Dilgar War has never been one of them. I think that it was more of a set-up for the Earth-Minbari War, putting Earth in the position they would need to be to be thrown into that situation.

I think the most likely thing we're looking at, as many others seem to think as well, would be a movie (tv movie or otherwise) of the Telepath War. It seems to be the only story I think in the B5 universe left that JMS *really* felt he needed to tell. The rest are just fun things to look at, but there seems to be something vital to all of that, thus the cause to be so tight-lipped about it in all B5 works

I also seriously doubt that anyone in a position to actually know anything would (a) participate in an on-line chat or (b) reveal any concrete information if he/she did. This was just another jumped up fanboy trying to stir the pot, either because he thought this would actually be a good idea, or because he thought it was so awful that it would drive people nuts. Most of all I'll be he's checking the usual B5 sites to see how far the phony rumor he planted has travelled.

There's been way too much speculative crap from e-zines and even the print mags on this topic - most of it based either on distortions of the tiny amount that JMS has been free to say or on the wackier 'net theories and very little of it based on independent sources who might legitimately have information.

I'll wait for JMS to say something after the official announcement and take all "rurmors" with a ton or two of salt.

                        Regards,

One thing is for certain... If they do anything as a prequal, they can only really use 2 original characters....

G'Kar, because we can't see how old he is under the makeup...
                          and Kosh because.... well obviously.....

                            too true.

Im just hoping whatever comes out at this point ressonates beyond the "converted" , so to speak, to prompt future projects.
