Nope, not me, thanks. JMS said that

      1) I heard from a trusted source that Paramount is giving the Trek TV
world a rest for maybe one to two years, depending on circumstances, no
matter who would come along to run it. So it's not right to have folks
putting in time doing something that ultimately would be pointless, I
      don't think that's a proper use of anybody's time.

      2) At the same time as the above, an offer came in to run a new TV
series for fall of '06, and since there's no way anything Trek can
happen in the interim, I've said yes (now we have to negotiate the
deal, but that should be fairly straightforward).
So if JMS's own sources tell him nothing's even possible for a good two years at least AND he's about to begin negotiations in another deal...why do it? Not to mention that if it got too much attention, might it have a negative effect on his negotiations? I don't want to take the chance. Two other points:

1- I don't want to be associated with the people who tried to 'kill' Enterprise. If they chose not to like it, all they had to do is not watch it but I find deliberately trying, however lamely, to deprive people of their livelihoods...distateful.

2- There are no safeguards on this thing. At lease one person treated it like a regular poll and had a negative comment. Yet they're treating it as one of their 'count'.

I don't think that their main goal was to deprive people of their livelihoods but to stop this joke that was called Star Trek:Enterprise...i dont hate it but i dont like it either, acting was good,i have nothing against the actors, but the story..omg the story

But bottom line is,if i don't like something i dont watch it,ill never try to kill a show in any way,but on the other hand, some people are taking Trek far too serious.

Whether that's their main goal or not, it's a very real consequence of what they were trying to do. If they couldn't see that, then...well, as JMS says, actions have consequences. My not 'signing' their petition isn't much but that, and voicing my opinion of their lack of class, is all I can do.

An unfortunate aspect of much of genre fandom, I think. It's like there's some huge competition to be fans of the 'right' show/game/comic/anime/whatever.

I don't think I've ever noticed it in print fandom. There, when you tell a fan that you like such-and-such, it's more of "Oh, if you like that, then I recommend, this." instead of "Oh, jeez, how can you like that drivel!" It's not like fandom is some fraternity heirarchy, but the members often act as though it were.

Bakula and company won't be working at the burger barn when Enterprise is killed, that's for sure. If any of them have handled their money correctly, they shouldn't have to work for a long while...not that they won't, but they shouldn't have to.

I am sure Blaylock can land a job pretty quickly.

            Kill Enterprise!
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

Jan i have to disagree with you there, although i havent seen their "kill petition" and i don't know what its about,im pretty sure it wasn't aimed against the actors and all of the people working behind the scenes,it was aimed against Braga, and those who were responsible for taking such a thing like Star Trek and twist it in a weird way to fit some sort of a market for today's sci-fi.

Enterprise is not Star Trek, sure the ships looks the same,it had a borg episode (sheesh another one?),they talk about The Federation...but its not it.

Star Trek is much more then just another sci-fi series, many people (millions) grew up on this series throughout its evolving (or some like to think devolving) process.

For the subject at hand,i signed the petition because i do want JMS to do Star Trek, and now since we have 2 years (at least) he has the time to write scripts for a 5 year story arc LOL,and even if nothing will come out of this,i can still hope.

*im against any kill petitions, just as i wont sign any petition to kill\not go to see TMoS if the major cast are been replaced.

Sorry Jan, but I have to disagree too. Nowhere does the site state that jms should write StarTrek tomorrow. It might be two years or more before it could possibly maybe optionally perhaps come true.

That's cool, I don't insist that people agree with me all the time. Just most of the time...part of the time...okay, every once in a while!

And I'd *love* to see what JMS could do in the Trek universe, don't get me wrong. If there's going to be a campaign, though, I think the timing should be carefully considered and organized - one huge precisely aimed torpedo that can't be ignored...in a couple of years.

Very true. I don't get it why everyone has to be so defensive of their favorite series, as if nothing else could or should exist. Like Trekkers looking down their nose at B5 and even vice versa. If you ask me, it's the same almost anywhere. In the online photographer hobbyist circles, there's the eternal Canon vs. Nikon holy war. Take sports - the fans are often all crazy about their team of choice. In Finland, many in Helsinki say how their city is the only city in Finland, and how it's the only "Finland", outside city borders it is something else, only lamers don't live in Helsinki, and they're cool because THEY live in Helsinki, blah blah and all such crap... etc etc.

It'd be nice if people could just live and let others live too the way they want

I have to go along with Jan's point. There is a difference between deciding something isn't worth your time, and actively trying to tear it down. I know people who liked Enterprise (admittedly not many ) Why should people feel the need to stop a piece of entertainment? If others are enjoying it, and it is commercially feasible, just let it be. You can cast your vote by not watching it. After that, the industry will decide. Given how hard it is to keep on shows with great potential, it just seems spiteful to request that a show be pulled.

Also, I don't think we should dismiss the livelihoods of people involved so readily. The majority of people who lose their jobs when a series is cancelled must find new work, just like most of us working stiffs. You might exclude the "stars" from this, but I don't think most of them could retire on their earnings. Professional fees and commissions related to their profession have to account for a pretty good-sized chunk, and the profession also requires a higher cost of living, given likely residence, additional wardrobe demands, etc. The people with the top billings probably have the ability to be more liesurely, but most probably do need to work again, even if they are careful with their money.
"That was the law, as set down by Valen. Three castes: worker, religious, warrior."

But I have a question here.. Didn't they tell JMS that they wanted to let STar Trekl have a rest for a few years to get the desire back in the audience?

Why is it then that they JUST ANNOUNCED that Star Trek XI is being written by the same bozo's who did Enterprise? And that it is a prequel to the other movies and show, and that they MIGHT want Shatner involved in it!!

Is it that they meant only TV shows??

Come on now, why would Paramount lie to the fans??

Once again in this thread allow me to state the following:

I'm not banking on the success of the attempts to save ENTERPRISE, but I do know that I just read today that all of the actors have stated they would come back if a 5th season were to be done.

Unfortunately, I've also read today that Berman has gone to new folks to make a ST XI feature that would be a prequel and not involve any of the characters known so far and would possibly deal with the Romulan War.

This would be the third attempt by him to get one made and while it's being reported and while IMDB actually lists this attempt, I seriously doubt it will ever come to fruition...mainly because of what I've also read today, which is that TREK fans want Berman gone in a bad way.

Paramount will have to let ENTERPRISE die for sure and let the features lay dormant for at least a couple or three more years to get out from under any deals with Berman I'm sure. Which ultimately, might be a large part of why they're so willing to let it die for now.

Even Coto has had a public difference of opinion with Berman now over TREK and its future and potential...Berman saying the franchise has reached a saturation point and Coto stating fervently that it hasn't. (BTW there's a great article up at TrekWeb, with an interview with Coto over his ideas for a 5th season of ENTERPRISE that sound great.)

Both articles can be found at TrekWeb...and apparently this new attempt at a TREK feature, though Paramount apparently has not announced any such film will be made, is being reported upon by Variety. Berman has hired one of the writers of Spielberg's BAND OF BROTHERS mini-series to pen a draft of a script based on a story by him (yeah, a new TREK story by Rick Berman...what can he fuck up this time?).

And why isn't TMoS in front of the cameras yet?

NOTE: Paramount has not greenlit this yet. They have already passed on three attempts by Berman. It is ultimately Paramount that will decide to make a new film or not, and I'm betting they will choose "not." I really do believe they want Berman and Bragga out of the picture and Berman just hasn't gotten that picture just yet. We all know from years of his destruction of all things TREK that he's very slow and not too bright.
