  • JMS New Series for Fall 2006!

JMS is running a new series! YAAAAAAAAY! Hope he can tell us soon if it's SF and if it's B5 or Crusade related. If it is, this will be better than TMoS since I prefer long-form (TV series) to short-form (theatrical film).

It will not be anything in the B5 universe. He is going to be show runner only. I do wonder if this is the same series he mentioned a while back on a post. The one he said he would be a fool to turn down.

    Time....well tell.

Isn't show runner about the most exhausting and intensive job there is on a TV show? Well, apart from writing about 4 years worth of episodes, that is

If so, it must be worth it, considering the number of things he seems to have on his plate at the moment...

Yep. Show running sure is one of the most exhausting jobs in TV. And, being a show runner, doesn't preclude wearing other hats like story editing or contributing scripts which I'm sure JMS will. *If* it is the series CE cited as the one only a fool would turn down, well I'm anticipating *that* one with baited breath. As JMS said a couple of weeks ago, we shall see what we shall see...

I thought they were saving that story for "TMoS 2: Sector 17 is Missing"

I don't want to get anyone excited, it's just speculation, but... isn't the Star Wars TV-Series slated for a fall '06 start?

                      Check out www.theforce.net

Lucas fully intends to move SW to TV after Ep3

Smith is heavily rumored to be doing a post ROTJ series, either ignoring or set after the huge amount of mostly naff novels.

Mark Hamil will now be an Obi-wan type, leading a new generation of Jedi...

Yeah, saw it a while back but still:

He explained that he has not heard an official word from Lucasfilm or even if Kevin Smith is involved.

                        Still a rumor.

I'm with ColonyEarth and the others - I don't think this particular series is a B5-related one. Still, we'll have JMS-driven television every week, yay!

Hey! Where did my post go? Damn...

Anyway, just wanted to correct my above speculation concerning the Star Wars TV-Series. I was reminded of JMS' post a while back where he already talked about a TV project, and since the air dates (fall 2006) match, I'm pretty sure it's the same show:
One last aside, on a long term project...a certain known film writer/director was recently asked by a particular studio to do a series using an established character. This person is a big fan of B5 as well as a friend, so a call came to me to ask if I wanted in on this. I said hell yes. I can't say much else about it, because a) it wouldn't be appropriate and b) things can still fall out, though that's doubtful at this stage (negotiations have formally begun with the studio), but if it does go ahead, the plan is to write the whole first season over the course of 2005, shoot in the spring of 2006 for a fall 2006 debut. There are reasons why we'd have to write the whole thing first that will become clear once I can explain what the character is. Again, I dont want folks to get too excited about this, because this is a weird business and this
is the one town where hope can kill you, but if it goes ahead as discussed, it could be massively cool.
You can find his original post here.

And BTW, just found out that JMS already addressed the SW TV-Show when it first came up -> http://www.jmsnews.com/msg.aspx?id=1-17198

You must remember one thing...no matter what you've heard, no one really knows how Lucas wants to do the show.

According to my source, they haven't settled 100% on what story the series will tell.

Remember, just cause you "heard" it on the net...don't make it true.

Lucas, according to my source, would only be a peripheral part of the series, getting it started and overseeing it at the start, but that he want's it arced. This, would be a JMS talent.

Ultimately, I don't think the series JMS is referring to is the SW series. I think it's something none of us knows anything about.
