  • Sad News - Sandra Bruckner has passed beyond the Rim

Just woke up to the news that Sandra (Sandy) Bruckner has passed away due to cancer. Many of the older fans of Babylon 5 will remember her huge contributions to B5 fandom.

When I got my first computer in '96, I discovered online fandom and Sandy was key to that. Sandy ran a weekly emailing mailing list with a few others called the Zocalo and gathered up all the news of B5 and the cast and crew.

As time went on, Sandy ran the B5 Fan Club and really improved the quality of the 'Universe Today' newsletter. While there's no hierarchy to fandom, I've always thought of Sandy as the First Lady of B5 fandom for all of her contributions.

I only got the pleasure of meeting her once - at the B5 reunion con in Phoenix in 2013. That was where all of us learned how important she was in helping Michael O'Hare when his illness caused him to leave the show. I know that she attended several conventions with him to help as well as in her duties with the fan club.

I'll miss her a lot and hope to see her again some day - beyond the rim.

I got to meet Sandra at Phoenix Comicon, too, and had some online dealings with her.
She will be missed in B5 fandom.
Maybe it is time to re-listen to that old podcast ...

      Very very sad news.
As long as it lasted, I was following the Zocalo NL.

Her last Email to me (Oct-27-2016):
      "Stefan,
Good morning. I have been in the hospital for a bit and just got home on Tuesday. I am working on getting stronger so that I can begin doing what I had been doing for so long.
      Sandy"

      But that never happend again.

Count me as another one who met her IRL at Phoenix despite having a long history of online communications with her.

RIP Sandy. You'll be missed dearly.

Really sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with her family. Never got the chance to meet her, but remember the Zocalo Today well.
Captain John Sheridan: I really *hate* it when you do that.

          Kosh: Good!

I was one of the lucky ones to meet her in person. I thanked her and asked her fanboy questions which she happily answered.

I can't count the years that my internet browsing started every day with Sandy's page.

The future is a little dimmer now with out her light.
What a wonderful world you live in. -
Yeah, well, the rent is cheap, the pay is decent and I get to make my own hours.

I can't ever remember actually directly speaking with Mrs. Bruckner, but I read her updates all the time. Very sad, but not unexpected news.

There's a guest book and very preliminary obituary posted for Sandy:

Her nephew posted that if anybody wants to make donations in her memory, they might be sent to Penny Lane. That's Pat Tallman's favorite charity where she does the Be A Santa program every year.

This was very sad news. I have never met her in real life, but just as Gary said her web presence and page have been a part of my every day routine for many years.

I did not know about her involvement in helping Michael O'Hare, nice of you to mention it Jan.

None of us knew until JMS told of how Sandy and JMS' then-wife Kathryn Drennan helped him. Even so many years later, JMS gave credit where due.

Wow, this was really sad news.

Sandra had been an Admin and content provider over at the isnnews.net site. I never had a chance to meet her but we sent emails back and forth occasionally.

I remember her involvement with the B5 fan club along with the guy who had the Centurian Centinel fanzine; when they both tried to rescue the B5 fan club from oblivion.

Her entertainment updates and insight will be greatly missed by many fans.

I just wanted to let everyone know that for now, ISN-NEWS.NET owner David Boyd has put up a small memorial on the main start page where the Zocalo Today used to be. No changes to the site or forums planned at this time.

                          So we continue...

Thank you. I deliberately did not post a working link as i thought it was explained in previous posts which isnnews site it was. Most would already have the bookmark. However, some fans thought that Sandra owned the entire ISN site. She was just a content provider for the main start page Zocalo Today. David Boyd and Doron Rosenberg own the isnnews.net domain.

And Sandra helped the B5 universe for over 20 years it seems. Wow.
