  • JMS at SDCC 2017

SDCC (San Diego Comic-Con) has just formally announced JMS as a Special Guest for 2017.

His bio is less irreverent than usual:
    J. MichaelStraczynski
Writer, The Amazing Spider-Man, Superman Earth One; Creator, Babylon 5

As a comics writer for Image, Marvel and DC on such titles as The Amazing Spider-Man, Thor, Midnight Nation, Dream Police, and Superman Earth One, J. Michael Straczynski has sold nearly 13 million individual issues; as a TV writer he's written over 300 produced episodes, creating Babylon 5 and co-creating Sense8 for Netflix; and in film he's worked on Changeling, Thor, and World War Z among others. He has a Rising Stars movie in development with MGM, is writing a Midnight Nation pilot for Universal with Gale Ann Hurd attached, and is developing Ten Grand for A&E.
Happy that it's been announced. As with most things SDCC-related, one needs to commit on faith before almost any guests are announced. Why, yes - I *will* be there!

It's here! This year SDCC sent out the badges in a small box with the the badge, a 'collectible' pin and pamphlet. The schedule is released a day at a time two weeks out so Preview night panels should be released on Wed., July 5.

    I'm goin' to Comic-Con!!

Same here. I would really love some forward momentum on the B5 movie, but I doubt it will get much of a mention. (pure speculation on my part, but I think JMS has more viable projects to focus on!).

None of us are getting any younger. He needs to get something going on this, even the smallest little thing like telling us the script is done. String me along already!!!!!

With so many garbage remakes, you would think we could at least get a B5 movie. Anyway, I'll stop derailing the thread. Happy to hear news on any / all of JMS' current active projects. I'm fairly keen on the Midnight Nation TV show, as well as Rising Stars, but I worry that the Superheroes thing is a bit oversaturated now.

I would worry if Wonder Woman hadn't done as well as it did. I do admit it is a bit of an uphill battle without having the tag Marvel or DC attached, but both are kind of attached if they can push JMS' credits.

Fully agree, Marvel and DC properties have an inbuilt audience to an extent. I always take heart in how well Guardians of the Galaxy did. If something is well made and tightly scripted, it can still do well despite the characters not being a known quantity.

Looks like the embargo on people/companies publicizing their schedules is over. Fox just put out their schedule. I've downloaded the MySched app into my phone. The official schedule will start coming out next week on July 5.

Aw, CRUD! I just realized that with Netflix giving Sense8 the finale episode, I may have to get in to whatever panel they have. Which is almost certainly to be in Hall H. Which people *camp out overnight* to gain access to. Which I most certainly can't do. Crud...

ETA: In other news, SDCC has renewed their contract with San Diego through 2021.

ETA: Looks like they're really making a splash for their first visit!!
Go big or go home appears to be Netflix's motto for San Diego Comic-Con, as the online streaming network will be out in full force this year. Attendees will get three Hall H panels - starting with a split panel on Thursday, July 20 for Bright and Death Note. Attendees will get a sneak peek at Dav

And here we are - two weeks from Preview night for SDCC. Traditionally, today is when the official schedule will begin rolling out one day at a time. I'll be on the lookout for anything JMS, B5 or Sense8 related.

I reckon the Netlfix panel will be well covered, so we can probably use you more at JMS related things for detailed reporting! Ha.

Indeed. And it looks like they've got several panels so they may not be in Hall H anyway. For the sake of fandom, though, I plan to brave the show floor (which I try to avoid whenever possible) to go to the Netflix booth and ask for anything they've got on Sense8.
