  • JMS & B5 Cast at SDCC 2015

SDCC announced that JMS would be at San Diego Comic-Con as a special guest again this year and JMS just confirmed it on his Facebook page:

    Fans of J. Michael Straczynski
Yes, it's true, despite popular requests, I will be attending San Diego Comic Con again this year as special guest. http://www.comic-con.org/toucan/twel...special-guests
Going over to the SDCC site, it's always fun to read the blurbs he writes each year:

    J. MichaelStraczynski
Writer, Superman: Earth One series; co-writer/co-creator, Sense8

    J. Michael Straczynski co-wrote/co-created the upcoming Sense8, which will debut on Netflix in June and which he executive produced alongside the Wachowskis (Matrix films). He is currently writing and producing Titans, a new feature film for Peter Chernin (Planet of the Apes) in association with Graphic India, is developing an anthology series for SyFy, is working on a spy series for the British network ITV, and is adapting Kim Stanley Robinson's Red Mars books for Spike TV. His Superman: Earth One, volume 3 has, at the time of this writing, been sitting on the New York Times bestseller list for six weeks. On the theory that the only good writer is a dead writer, he attributes his success to having been killed in an avalanche in Bolivia in 1978.
I've posted asking if he might say more about the SyFy anthology and ITV spy series.

Woahhh, JMS has a ton of tv/movie stuff he's working on. I am crossing everything that the anthology is going to like a Twilight Zone/Outer Limits type show because I miss those.

Ummm What SyFy Anthology series? Did I miss an eep or other announcement recently?

The last thing I've heard of Was Red Mars.
All generalizations are false, including this one.

Not really sure and JMS didn't answer when I slid the question into that thread. My best guess is that it's the Night Gallery mini-series that he semi-announced last SDCC, albeit not by name. Here's the IMDb page:
IMDb is the world's most popular and authoritative source for movie, TV and celebrity content. Find ratings and reviews for the newest movie and TV shows. Get personalized recommendations, and learn where to watch across hundreds of streaming providers.

I don't see any channel attached to that, though.

If nothing else, I should find out at SDCC if everything works out.

So how is the Con going so far? Did you just see him or did you speak to him?

Just saw him. Autograph time this afternoon.

B5 fan photo meeting later. He may come there and have a pic taken with the fan group.

UPDATE : He did come to have a picture taken with fans in costume. I missed it, though, because he came later than expected.

" ...is working on a spy series for the British network ITV."

Interesting. Going to have to go and see if any of my contacts in the industry over here know anything more about this.

Okay ... don't read too much into this, because I may be adding 2 and 2 and making purple unicorns, but ... I heard from a friend at ITV that she understands the company are considering a remake of "The Sandbaggers" (spy series from the late 1970's). To be absolutely clear, she hadn't heard JMS' name in connection with it (and she wouldn't - not her department), but potentially interesting, I think.

Cheers for the insight John, even if it does come to nothing or prove to be wrong! Still interesting.
Captain John Sheridan: I really *hate* it when you do that.

                      Kosh: Good!

Great news! I asked JMS about whether Netflix might be at SDCC for a Sense8 panel:

Sigh...Thursday's SDCC schedule was posted today.

                            Sense8
On June 5 Netflix debuted one of their most controversial and provocative new series, Sense8. Be on hand for the very first panel discussion of this new series, hosted by co-creator/writer and executive producer J. Michael Straczynski.
                            Thursday July 9, 2015 5:00pm - 6:00pm
                            Room 5AB
There's just one problem - I don't have a ticket for Thursday!!! I'm hoping to be able to do something not entirely by the rules and borrow somebody's badge for a couple of hours. Wish me luck!!!

SDCC has just gotten to be so darned much work!
