Every time I look up the excellent B5 guest stars on IMDB, I see that nine times out of ten they were on Twilight Zone, Murder, She Wrote or something else that JMS has worked on. Did he become actively involved in casting the main stars and the guests? I'd think so, as he took DiTillio with him, suggesting he is a guy who remembers old friends and what not.

I think it'd be absolutely awesome to be able to get your favorite actors on your show. He's had David Warner, Clive Revill, Bruce McGill...man, that would just be awesome.

So, does anyone know if he requested to the casting department that these actors from shows he'd previously worked on be considered for a part? Or flat out chosen? Heh.
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

JMS has mentioned some names and the reasons for chosing them in posts. Can't remember specific names for guest spots, but I'm almost sure JMS has said that he's suggested certain actors.
A search in the archives here (or at the Lurker's Guide for those episodes, I've noticed a few "JMS Speaks" comments are not in this archive) may give the answers.

Bruce McGill was an accident, but it turned out great anyway. I think it's in one of the comentaries. JMS said he wanted Everett McGill, but when he mentioned the name he only said "that McGill guy". The casting people thought he meant Bruce, and they hired him instead. All the better for me since I love the guy!

Saw Bruce McGill in Collateral with Mr Cruise.
Turned to my mate when I recognised him and said who it was. Totally forgot my friend had never watched b5.

          Swan dives...

I remember one of JMS's biggest casting moments is when he got Paul Williams for the show. Y'see, Joe is a HUGE fan of the flick 'Phantom of the Paradise' in which Mr. Williams costars as 'Swan', a devilish music producer.

When Williams was on B5, Joe got an autograph(!) which Mr. Williams was kind enough to sign as 'Swan'
