  • So, I had a good morning!

My quest for Script Books is going well! Won another batch on eBay, postage is a bit of a killer, but still cool to find these at such a good price.

Oh, heavens, now I feel guilty. I'm pretty sure those have been listed *forever*. I figured you knew about them and had passed for whatever reason. FWIW, the postage is exactly correct. I just shipped a package to Chile this week and that's what the lowest rate was for a medium flat rate box.

So what volumes are you looking for now?

Not to worry, I tend to check ebay somewhat sporadically, and these cropped up. Yes, the seller opted for the flat rate box, which was the best deal all round. Some eBay sellers really do take the piss on postage, so glad to see this one was reasonable. Now, fingers crossed they all turn up without incident!

LetÆs see.... so far IÆve managed to acquire:

      Vols 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 11, 12

      Which means IÆm currently searching for Vols 1, 7, 9, 10, 13, 14 and 15

IÆm having to space my purchases out, otherwise IÆd go broke doing this, even at the reduced second hand market prices. eBay seems to be the way forward as Amazon sellers tend to inflate prices. I havenÆt decided if I want to go after the Other Voices volumes or not yet, so currently IÆm primarily focused on getting the original series of JMS books.
I think I enjoy the chase almost as much as the books themselves (cursed collector mentality!). I expect there are certain volumes that crop up more often than others, so I think it may be a long haul to complete the collection, but thatÆs kinda fun anyway.

Five volumes fit perfectly into the medium flat rate box so hopefully the seller will use plenty of padding. IME, damage is more likely if the contents can shift around. Postage rates have gotten better since Ebay has started charging fees on the final price *including* shipping. As a seller I hate that but as a buyer I appreciate that it's helped with postage gouging.

I know the feeling about the thrill of the chase. I remember back when I was scouring Ebay for scripts - the elation of pouncing on a new one (and the disappointment if it was a bootleg, 'cause I wouldn't buy those). Playing with the collection is almost as much fun, though.

Wow, folks actually went to the trouble of bootlegging scripts? Must have been a lucrative market for that to happen!

I have a Kosh action figure on the way (GBP 5 on ebay!), so this may happen in a more literal sense than you'd think. I have all kinds of adventures planned. Although, I somehow suspect Kosh will likely sit atop my hi-fi speakers as silent observer to whatever vinyl is spinning on the deck.

More so back then. An actual set-used script for one of the *wham* episodes could go for close to a hundred bucks. Copies would (still do, actually) usually sell for far less but you could sell them repeatedly.

The few season sets that would come along fostered fierce bidding. The two I recall were Pat Tallman selling a set for a crew member (hairdresser, I think) and Fiona Avery selling the set she used as reference editor. I don't think that any season went for less than $800 and I think one went up to $13-1400. I was sad that no one collector got all five seasons. In fact, while I'm sure there might be some somewhere, the only person I know of who has a complete set of all of them (B5, Crusade & movies) is me. All but I think three are set-used and every one is from a legitimate source.

I've seen photos of him observing human behavior. My fave was as a Christmas tree topper - which, when you think of it, makes perfect sense.

Wow, I think I want a Vorlon Christmas next year! Although, I'm unsure if I'd really want a Vorlon as my household god. Hey, at least if I changed faith, Kosh would change his appearance accordingly. They're sneaky like that, those meddlesome Vorlons.

Of course, I'd have to a have a faith to begin with (which i don't), apart from some loose personal musings, and simple dictums like "be kind to one another".

                Oh, a general request...

If anybody can help me out sourcing Volumes 1, 7, 9, 10, 13, 14 and 15 of the JMS Script books, please PM me. I can't pay over the odds 'collector prices', but drop me a line if you want to help out a fellow B5 fan.

                  Ubik,

As I'm sure you're aware the only way people got volume 15 was if they bought volumes 1 through 14, ergo it's unlikely you'll get that for sale on it's own unless someone is selling their entire colleciton as alump, which I'd imagine, unless it's a sale by a non fan from the estate of somebody who's passed, you'd be paying upwards of 300-400$ for the lot.

And no, you can't have mine!

It degenerates and corrupts both sides to ever more sordid levels of existence, in their need to gain an advantage over the enemy. Those actively involved in combat are almost always damaged goods for the rest of their lives. If their bodies don't bear scars, their minds do, ofttimes both. Many have said it before, but it can't be said to enough, war is hell. "

Yeah, I hear you on that one! Vol 15 is one of the few that commands the big $$$ on eBay.

Anyhow, I thought it wouldn’t hurt to ask. Vol. 15 will likely be one that I’ll simply have to live without, or I may end up bidding on a full collection as they seem to come up fairly regularly at the moment. Of course, if I were to do that, I’d have to shift the seven volumes I already bought, and they don’t currently seem to sell very well on the second hand market.

Plus, dropping $300-400 in one go is also gonna hurt, and I think I'd feel guilty spending that amount of cash on script books.

                      Good news everybody!

I managed to snag a Vol 15 on eBay yesterday for $100. Quite a reasonable price I thought! Six volumes to go and I have a complete set of the original scripts (minus Other Voices, TV Movies, etc).

Thanks guys, I'm happy to have found this... but also find it slightly worrying I just dropped $100 on a POD book!

Still, looking forward to it, and the hunt for the further missing volumes continues!
