Okay, everyone, here's a challenge for all the nascent film guys and editors out there. I need (well, have always weanted) a really good sizzle reel that I can show at conventions and, in some cases, give to execs at studios as kind of a calling card and put up on imdb.com. I was going to call a couple of editors I know to pull this together, then I thought...rather than trying to explain the ra...nge of my work to someone who may not be well acquainted with it, why not go to the Group Mind?
So here's the deal: I'm looking for two different kinds of reels. One covers strictly my work in live-action TV and film, which would be for execs, and the other is a convention reel intended as a broad, expansive overview of my work, covering comics, fiction, animation, TV, film, the whole catastrophe. In both cases I'm looking for style, professionalism, excitement (but not over the top), slickness, and a bit of the wow factor: the stars I've worked with, the directors and producers, the networks, logos, whatever would make someone sit up and take notice . (Also remember that this is a WRITER'S reel, so something that's just visuals and pretty pictures won't cut it.)
The reels should be between 3 and 5 minutes in length. Most of what you'll need to make the reel is already out there in terms of graphics, DVDs, high-resolution excerpts, so the resources are there. The creator of the chosen reels will receive $500 each, and their names will be appended at the end of the reel. They will also be able to use that reel as a sample to show to others to get more work. I will put one or the other up on imdb.com where it will be visible to anyone who searches under my name, and thus seen by considerable segments of the Hollywood production community. (I will own all rights to the reel, and I may come back to you at some point to do a quick update of that reel, especially once WWZ comes out, for which I'll pop in another hundred bucks for your time to add the additional minute or so of material.)
Cutoff point will be the end of the year, and submissions should be made via verified link to an online viewable file.
Got it? Good. So let's see what you've got.
Ready...steady...go!
