  • The Marching Morons

I just heard this audio drama last night. I'm sure a lot of people are familiar with the story, but JMS did an audio drama version of this in I think 2000?

Over the past few months I"ve gotten REALLY into audio dramas in general, and I saw this on my itunes without any recollection that this script was done by JMS, listened to it, was pleasantly surprised to hear Harlan Ellison introducing it, and then heard the podcast.

I started thinking in it "wow, this is really captivating...probably one of the best audio dramas I've ever heard..."

And then at the end, Harlan mentions who wrote the script

Now I had to have gotten this because it was by JMS...but I forgot about it until now. I recommend giving this a listen wholeheartedly.

    Where did you hear it?

"The Marching Morons" is one of my favorite cautionary tales (right after "Harrison Bergeron," one of the other stories that seems more and more apropos, nowadays,) and I'd love to lay my hands - or at least ears - on this version!

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but JMS posted the following back in 2001:

      >Early heads up for JMS' dramatization of "The Marching Morons" on
      >March 7th on Seattle's KUOW which can also be heard at www.kuow.org.
      >The series title is NPR Playhouse 2000X and the host is Harlan
      >Ellison.

Don't bother. I found out recently that the script that has my name on it does
not represent the work I did. The guy who does the show basically wrote a
script of his own and put my name on it. I've asked him (through attorneys) to
take my name OFF it, because it's just awful. And it's false advertising,
      because it ain't my work.

Yeah Jason - I read that shortly after I posted here. I didn't even know it was JMS or even hypothetically JMS when I was listening. It was still very good, whether he penned it, partially penned it, or just had his name slapped on it.
