  • JMS at SD Comic-Con 2011

San Diego Comic-Con announced last night that JMS will be appearing again this year. With Thor coming out soon, Underworld 4 premiering early next year and the news of his adaptation of Harlan Ellison's short story and the DreamWorks Voices from the Dead movie, he should have plenty to talk about. Oh...and it'll be 'after April' by then, too.

ETA: Come to think of it, I'd be surprised if he's not up for at least one Eisner Award, maybe even more.

While advance tickets for the show are sold out, it's common that returned tickets go on sale closer to the show.

Just found on JMS's Facebook fan page:

And yes, that's San Diego Comic Con.
I don't know if it's verified yet but Pat Tallman was interviewed on the Babylon Podcast last week and she mentioned that she'll be there, too, with special copies of the new book she's got coming out via the Scripts Team.

Returned tickets should be being made available soon. There was a lot of trouble with the ticketing system earlier this year which hopefuly will be fixed.

Here's the panel description for JMS's Friday panel:

        Friday, July 22
3:00-4:00 DC: Superman— How does The Man of Tomorrow fit into the new DC Universe that rises in September? Find out as group editor Matt Idelson joins new Action Comics writer Grant Morrison (All Star Superman, Batman Incorporated) and author of the bestselling Superman: Earth One graphic novel J. Michael Straczynski (Superman, Wonder Woman) to take fans new and old up, up, and away to give them a sneak peak at what's in store for Superman. Room 6DE
ETA: JMS not mentioned as participating but there's an Underworld 4 panel scheduled on Friday. JMS wrote the screenplay:

        Friday, July 22

And now Saturday's Spotlight is listed:

          Saturday, July 23
2:00-3:00 Spotlight on J. Michael Straczynski— Comic-Con special guest J. Michael Straczynski (Thor movie and comic, Superman Earth One, World War Z movie, Babylon 5) talks about...well, we're never quite sure. He's fairly incomprehensible. Have you heard him? Stunning, really. Can't make out a word. We imagine he'll be talking about writing for movies, TV, comics and so on, but honestly, he could be talking about hydroponics for all we can tell. Translators may be provided if we can ever figure out what language he's speaking. Room 7AB
(At least two of your faithful JMSnews 'translators' will be on hand!)

Last year some fans (an his agent) were upset that his spotlight panel description was disrespectful. “I wrote that,” Straczynski said, adding he likes making the intros ruder and ruder. “Next year's will be, 'Joe Michael Straczynski: So the Fuck What?'” Guess the con wanted a few more words than that.

Day one, and I get to post before Jan cuz she's at a Dark Shadows panel right now. JMS was at the Superman panel with a whole host of other DC folk, so he didn't get too much in. They did show a few pages of art from Superman Earth-One Volume 2, and it looks stunning, I'm happy to say.

JMS reiterated in Q&A that he quit monthlies at the direction of DC in order to focus on earth one because it sold so well. He said he is taking a 2-3 year hiatus from monthly comics which he's in his 6th month of.

Most the focus was on the new 52 books for DC, so there wasn't a ton of time focused on JMS.

                What we learned:

                - Superman has a neighbor named Lisa, who is attractive, looks pretty slutty and is very into him
                - We get into some sexual situations where we hear from his past when his father is having "the talk" with him, and explaining that he may not be able to do such things, being an alien
                - At some point he loses his powers and gets into a situation where he falls unconscious, the neighbor finds him, undresses him and he wakes up thinking that he did the deed with her. Supposed to be a pretty good humor moment.
                - Clark doesn't wear underwear.
                - The villain is some sort of alien parasite that looks like a big evil scary monster with muscles

                Don't think I missed anything.

So, about 90 minutes to go before the JMS panel.

Are we there yet?Are we there yet?Are we there yet?Are we there yet?...

Where will the B5 announcement first hit, here or on FB/twitter? (There better be one.)

I wouldn't get my hopes up. The spoiler sounds like a Flash or Spidey thing not a young Superman.

Oh, this does not sound very promising...
or all the attendees had to pledge a vow of silence or something..
