  • JMS 2010 end-of-year 'report'

Toward the end of the year each year, somebody generally asks JMS about all the things he's working on. I posted the question to his FB page this afternoon and he posted:

Lensman is on hold at Universal, because they know it would cost a mint to produce and they're not certain about the name value, if it's well enough known to bring in an audience that will make the investment pay off...I'm spec'ing out features now based on Dream Police and Midnight Nation, and have an offer to direct the latter once it's done...I'm almost one-third into the second volume of Superman Earth One, which is going really well...making one last pass at Shattered Union and nearly finished with the outlilne for Vanishing Point, both for Bruckheimer...I may have something to say about a new home for Apocalypse Al in the next week or so...there's been an interesting development on The Flickering Light, about which more later...and two other feature projects have landed on my desk as possible assignments, so we'll see where they go.
He didn't mention the Dreamworks project.

ETA: I went ahead and posted a few follow-up questions.

In answer to a queestion about whether JMS has plans for a new science fiction TV series, JMS replied:

I've developed/written a couple of network pilots in the last couple of years, once for Spielberg/Dreamworks, the other for Fox, which came very close, but it's always a crap shoot, often determined by what stars are attached and what the other network priorities are. So this year we'll see what we shall see.

This is cool: We've got a 'first of the year' report, too, and it's got some cool stuff:

(I should be able to say something about a new version of The Adventures of Apocalypse Al in a few weeks.)

In the broadest of strokes: just before the end of the year, I was offered two additional movie deals, which (should I say yes and should we make a deal) would start after I turn in the next project for the friendly folks at Bruckheimer...there's been some forward movement on The Flickering Light, a film project I initiated on my own...I've just begun the process of putting togther the necessary team and resources to produce and write another film based on my script Dollar Days...my latest spec (based on a very famous SF story) is out to directors to see who wants to come on board... and I'm juggling a couple of possibilities for TV series.

      Otherwise, it's pretty quiet.
