  • re: "Shadow of his Thoughts" omission

Having just re-read "Shadow of his Thoughts", I'm once again irked by the lines inadvertantly omitted from it's appearance in 'Amazing Stories #597'.

    Page 2 has:

'Vole's hands moved faster, "I meant no offense, excellency, because certainly Your Excellency's memory is in perfect condition, the whole world is confident in Your Excellency's magnificent abilities and --" '

' "Vole?" twelve hundred years earlier, during the reign of Emperor Morell, as a gift for his wife Celina. Not long thereafter, she went mad and hanged herself from the highest of the palace's four towers. '

Now, there's obviously quite a lot missing between the first two words of that second sentence, and I'm sure that, over the years, someone MUST have queried this with JMS. Does anyone know what that missing text is?

Looks like you've got a misprint. It reads"

    "Vole?"
    "Yes, Excellency?"
    "Shut up."
    "Yes, excellency."

The minister stepped back out of the way as Londo regarded the ornate carriage that had been brought into the circular drive behind the palace. He had, of course, seen it many times before, at traditional ceremonies and other frmal occasions, but rarely this close. It had been built twelve hundred years...

A thousand thanks for the missing text, Jan.

Needless to say, my copy of the story is the [deleted].net' one - which, from its layout, seemed to be taken directly from its magazine appearance. I assumed that was how it originally appeared and am happy to find that I was in error.

      Thanks again,

      Peter

Happy to help. Hope you'll hang around and see if there are conversations you'd like to join.

BTW, I deleted the URL you posted. While I know that the magazine is no longer in print and expensive on the secondary market, we try not to promote bootleg sites here and I'm quite sure that that one is not authorized.
