No, sorry, not a perfect example, there's no difference in formatting between the questions and answers, and no description of who asked.

And didn't you notice the grammar errors, like some words missing in some sentences, where profesional transcribers would insert the missing word (if not spoken) in square brackets for clarity?

Is also not the same because that is an official site...

If you want to be anything other than what you've been, say... helpful, why don't you re-format the existing transcript to your standards? Or as I said before: do your own transcription.
Maybe you'll learn in the process that is not as easy as you thought...
Such... is the respect paid to science that the most absurd opinions may become current, provided they are expressed in language, the sound of which recalls some well-known scientific phrase

Maybe so. Still, after a civil apology in email, I can't help but get a little annoyed when this person A) doesn't carry the apology into the public eye where the attack was and then B) plops a link in to a transcript of a completely different type of Q&A and then C) goes all cryptic about understanding.

Hope nobody minds if I chime in on this discussion (he says, planning on doing so anyway), but I think that criticism was harsh to say the least. Having conducted and transcribed more than 2000 interviews in my checkered career, I can vouch for the difficulty when you get a tape that's hard to hear. I think I was also sitting closer to JMS than Jan, and my own tape was extremely hard to get through. I've also interviewed JMS probably 15-20 times over the years, and he can sometimes be hard to understand. Sometimes he speaks quietly and extremely quickly, and when you add that to the bad acoustics of a high school classroom and no microphone, it adds up to a nightmare for transcribing. And as a professional, who probably spends 40% of my working life transcribing interviews, I can tell you it's tough enough for those of us who do it for a living. For a fan who's not used to doing these things, I'm sure it's even harder. For someone to come along and criticize somebody's efforts, which were only made in order to share part of that day with her fellow fans, is pretty damn uncool. If you can do better, by all means go ahead. If not, perhaps a little gratitude is in order!

Thanks, Joe. Yes, I was on the other side of the room from where you were and the lady (StarStuff-love that name!) who taped the Q&A was behind me.

The best part of the day was meeting up with other fans, many of whom I'd been reading posts and articles from for years. Joe was there to help out JMS and also sold some autographed trading cards to help the school fund for the same $1 that JMS was charging for his autograph. The three of those cards that I got will be going into one of the prize packages for the raffle I'm putting together.

It was a really fun day. And speaking of fun, who's going to be at DragonCon over Labor Day weekend?

                <<(StarStuff-love that name!)>>

When I was in eighth grade, I wanted to open a comic/sci-fi shop when I got older...the name? Star Stuff. Not related the Delenn's speech. Way before B5's time.
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

Are there any good cons in the midwest? We have some in town here, but they always suck with like 1,000 people or less. And they always get Robert Picardo and Chase Masterson...every single time. Dragon is on the east coast, Comic on the west, Wizard is waaaaay up in Chi-town (last I checked). Is there anything GOOD like around KC or St.L or Tulsa or Peoria or somewheres in there? I went to Indy for SW Celebration II and that was just too long of a drive. Big con, but really dull for what it was, and overcrowded. And of course, monolithic. So, anyways, any cons where I asked about?

I'm happy if I come across at all

Sorry if my previous comment seemed other than the silly joke it was...

In reparation, and greater (but not complete) seriousness, here's the three edges I see:
msunyata side: which I obviously don't understand.
Our side: which is that he was making a storm in a glass of water and was out of line.
The truth: msunyata is biased by a misguided perfectionism coming from ignorance of the labor and intentions involved in the transcription.

And I apologize for being prickly, Capt. Montoya. My annoyance was toward msunyata, not you.

Actually, in the email msunyata wrote to me, s/he insisted that:

                      And, above and beyond its
particular context, quality should be slavishly adhered to, whether or not
one is venturing into waters that he has never been to before or whether or
not the endeavor is a professional venture or a pursuit of love (a sentiment
which I'm quite sure jms himself would agree with).
...which I cannot agree with at all simply because *as stated* it's just too compulsive . Yes, I'm a B5 fan(atic) but that's the extent of my obsessive/compulsive impulses.

Anyway, let's just let this thread go to sleep. Many, many thanks to all for your kind words, abject apologies to those who didn't like it, but as JMS used to say....onward.

I have seen the attack in public and apologise in private trick pulled before. The apology is not real, it is just designed to prevent a public counter attack. Politicians do not mind lying.

Without a rebuttal the false charge stays in everyone else's mind and probably on the official written record. Used carefully this technique can stab half the people in the office in the back whilst making them think the liar is a friend. There is nothing new about lying to avoid a well deserved punishment.

That could be checked by Doug, with the IP address.
Not that I think it matters... I could care less who msunyata is but the effort is not worth it.
