  • JMS for Star Trek?

I was surfing on tvtome.com looking for episode guides for B5, when I happend to click on JMS's name and what do I find? Under "Notes" it says quote "Is rumoured to be creating the sixth Star Trek series, which is rumored to serve as a sequel to Deep Space Nine and Voyager" /Unquote. This sounds VERY interesting (at least for me), and I just wanted to know if anyone knows anything about this?

BTW, "http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/PersonDetail/personid-19536" is where I found it.

JMS submitted a proposal for a new Star Trek. We do not know how seriously it is being taken. My guess is that Paramount is using it to give the Producers of ôEnterpriseö a kick up the backside. However if the ratings do not improve there is a contingency plan ready and waiting.

Amusingly enough, on the Trek front, Bryce Zabel (the creator of Dark Skies)
and I got together and wrote a treatment earlier this year that specified how
to save ST and develop a series that would restore the series in a big way. I
actually think it could be a hell of a show. Whether that ever goes anywhere
    with Paramount, who knows?ö

Ok, thanks for the reply. It would be interesting to see what jms would do if he got "his own" Star Trek show to work on. That would be wonderful to watch I think Guess all I have to do now is to wait and hope the enterprise ratings go down the drain eh

      Anyways, thanks again man

Dont hope too much. If the next season of Enterprise goes badly, it will be the end of Trek as we know it. There certainly wont be another series if it bombs. Its by more luck than judgment that we're even going to get a forth season of Enterprise, and the introduction of Many Coto is B+Bs last ditch attempt to save the franchise.

If it fails, I dont think we would even get another movie, let alone series 6.

Where did they get the rumour that it would be a continuation of DS9 and Voyager?

JMS only said that he submitted a series treatment, no specifics of what it would deal with, no?

First of all, I just want to say sorry for not answering in a while, been away...

Anyways, here goes, what I ment with the "hope that ratings go down" joke , was that I figured that if Enterprise ratings go down a bit, the series will do all it's seasons, but the creators will realize "Ok, this show wasn't so good, we need something that can pretty much guarantee greatness", and then Enter jms... Of course I don't want the ratings to go ALL down so it won't be no more Star Trek, I like Trek, allways has and allways will (even though it pales in comparison to Babylon 5 ), but as I said, just hoped they would go down a bit

As for where I got the info that it would be a "sequel" to DS9 and Voyager, I think it was on www.tvtome.com, I think I wrote the full adress on my first post.

Hopefully (at least I hope so), jms will get to do a Star Trek series no matter if the Enterprise ratings go down or not

But that was exactly my question: where did they (the tvtomists) get the "info."
As far as I know anything you see on what would be the setting for JMS treatment for Trek is just an unfounded rumor. His only official words (that launched all that speculation) are archived in this site, and he didn't give any details.
Unless I missed something, hence my question.

Ah, ok, I thought you wanted to know where I found the info, my bad Anyways, I don't know where they got the info from, it's just there... Maybe there's a mail-adress somewhere on that page? Come to think of it, it would be fun to know where they got it from

In any case, I just hope the rumours are true

JMS for Trek? Not his style really. But if so then it would be modeled more after TNG and/or VOYAGER.

                    For the rumor-killer record:
Pending contractual negotiations and formal pickup by the networks involved,
I've been offered two different series, so we'll see which goes first. They
could both be very cool to work on, but one of them could be insanely
successful. I should know more about this situation in late October. (Neither
is Trek-related, just to nip any potential rumors in the bud.)

                        JMS making a trek series

That would be the ultimate show. It would go on forever cause look at treks longevity on tv and jms in it That show would kick serious a**.

Sends shivers up my spine thinking about it.

jms would definitely give it a kick

We all know that Jms and Bryce Zabel submitted a proposal to Paramount with an idea for a new Star Trek show.

We know it was nothing to do with Enterprise and we know it was to be something completely different. From what we can gather, that's as far as it got. And Paramount have not persued it.

Well I was just reading some interviews with Rick Berman and wondered if maybe there could be something to it. Everyone has been thinking in terms of a series, but what if it was the next Star Trek movie ?

"I will say that I am involved in the very early stages of what could be the next Star Trek movie. I think that to refer to it as a prequel would be valid. To refer to it as a trilogy would be premature. The mentions of Kirk and things like that, it's a little premature to be talking of things like that. It's something I will be producing with two other producers , and it's in a very early stage of development.

There is also another television show that Brannon and I are working on."
Rick Berman: The rumors are not very accurate, we are in very early stages and we are not sure what we will see at the end. A few things that I can share is that the movie will be a prequel and probably after Enterprise. It will be like nothing we have ever seen on Star Trek and it will be based on all new characters.

JMS said a series, not a movie... from his track record I think he would have said "movie script" if that was what he meant.

But with Paramount's track record with respect (or lack thereof) to JMS maybe the suits suggested his series premise to Berman as material for the next movie.

I agree it was a series proposal originally. But what if B+B over at Paramount decided to use the idea/story for their next movie instead ?

I'm sure they are fully aware they will not get another series off the ground at the moment, but still seem to be persuing another movie. You never know.

We do know JMS would love to do Trek his way and with his story. If a movie is the only way Trek will continue (except whats left of Enterprise), maybe B+B would give it to JMS/Zybel in the hope that it would be popular enough to spawn a new show, to keep their breadmill turning.

In essence, use it as a pilot.
