  • B5 Archivist photos

For years now I've been promising to post photos of my B5 collection and I've finally gotten around to starting it. I've posted some photos of the bits and pieces of the making of B5 that I've collected at B5Archivist.com for those interested in seeing my collection. Click on the thumbnails for larger images and captions.

Amy once put together a group of us to purchase a genuine prosthetic of "G'Kar" for the sole purpose of donating it to a museum. She made a good point then that it's a shame for the few B5 items that do show up on Ebay to simply disappear into private collections never to be seen again by the people who love the show.

So here's an invitation to other collectors (yes, I've actually lost a few auctions) that if they'd like to send me photos of their collections, I'll happily add them so that other fans can enjoy them. You can PM me here for my email address.

    Hope you enjoy.

Thank you for doing this Jan. I'm sure it's been challenging to master a web site, but I, and I'm sure countless others appreciate, this and all your other B5 efforts as well.

I highly doubt I would be as well rounded a B5 fan without your influence.
What a wonderful world you live in. -
Yeah, well, the rent is cheap, the pay is decent and I get to make my own hours.

Thanks, Gary. It's the simplest of sites, something that was available from the company where I registered the domain. It'll do for now while I teach myself more.

Oh...I should mention that while there's a purple background at the moment, it may be green in the future.

Jan, thank you for you effort. Do all those items belong to you? This is a really amazing collection! Thank you very much for sharing, I found it very interesting.

        And, by the way: PURPLE!

Jan. I wonder if there has been any thought to putting out a book of B5
photo's. Along with captions as to what the picture is about. JMS has said he has taken personal pic's and I am quite sure that there are a lot of people who were associated with the show who also took pic's. It could be an interesting book. Mind you I guess some of the people would want to be paid
to use their pictures. Oh well maybe it wasn't such a good idea after all.

            Very good initiative, Jan.

I am afraid it will be difficult to add to your extensive collection, but I would gladly add pictures if I had some B5 stuff not in your possession.

Nice set of pictures, I am looking forward to a lot more of them.

Now for a bit of a mildly critical view. I have done a bit of photography myself, and I would suggest to replace the pictures of the data crystals, since the photos look like they are focused on the background rather than the crystals. Don't get me wrong , I appreciate your efforts, and just want to see things getting even better. If I would be living near you I would have offered to come along with my camera and get the best possible photos. Probably someone near you can assist you if need be.

            Thanks for your efforts, Jan.

Yes, this is all stuff I have currently. There's one more piece of concept art that I haven't photographed yet. I'll probably add at least a couple of galleries, one of B5 stuff I used to have, such as some episode blueprints and one of some of the rarer merchandise I have or used to have.

I'm pretty sure that there are Print on Demand houses that do color these days (I don't think CP does yet) but, yes, I think most people who provided pics for a commercial book would want to get paid, and rightly. That would make for a bookkeeping nightmare. Maybe someday, though.

I'll see if I can't get better ones but my camera's a very basic point-and-shoot. Thanks for your input, I agree that they're probably the weakest ones of the bunch. Maybe if I can figure out how to get it to stand on end. That's what I'd like for displaying it but I haven't figured out how yet. Suggestions are welcome.

Yeah...that seems to be a general consensus...

No, I've never seen one that I really wanted badly enough for the prices they wanted for them. *Maybe* the Corwin-style post-secession shirt but that's about it. The jumpsuits I've seen never did anything for me.

What, you don't already have it? I'm shocked...simply shocked.

Supposedly, Jeffrey thinks he might have one in his storage unit. But, since he's been talking about going through it for two years now, I'm not holding my breath. I did let Maggie know that if she ever wanted to give hers up, I'd happy give it a good home.

                              Jan,

Are you going to post this on Trekbbs too? I post there as "middyseafort" and know that quite a few folks would appreciate a closer look at these archival photos.
