  • JMS at San Diego Comic Con July 24-27,2008

This looks like it's just been announced that JMS will be at this year's Comic-Con again.

WHY does it always seem to be the west coast, huh???

No way I can make CC this year. I really want to meet JMS in person. Please keep us up to date on other appearances.

What a wonderful world you live in. -
Yeah, well, the rent is cheap, the pay is decent and I get to make my own hours.

For those considering attending Comic Con this year, it looks like the four-day passes are already sold out and the Saturday one-day passes getting close.

Yet again, Comic-Con is not a realistic possibility for me. Maybe one of these days Joe will write a book that will require a national book-signing tour.

Until that date Joe can rest easy.

NY Times article on Comic-Con International

          Comics Convention Beckons Hollywood

LOS ANGELES ù For those planning to attend Comic-Con International, the giant comic-book and fantasy convention scheduled to begin on July 24 in San Diego, the eventÆs organizers have published some helpful hints.

          ...

Although there is no mention of JMS, this is an interesting (albeit snobbish) article.

For anybody thinking of attending, four-day passes are sold out as are Saturday one-day passes. Friday one-day passes are at 85%.

No sign of a schedule yet but Colleen Doran has been posting about some of the panels she'll be on so it shouldn't be much longer.

A mainstream press article that is snobbish about comics? Why... that's odd. The next thing you know, they'll do an article about sci-fi conventions where they show a fat guy in a Starfleet uniform. Or beam up the reporter at the end (or in the UK, substitute a Doctor Who scarf for the former, and a TARDIS sound effect for the latter). And then cue the co-anchors as they both laugh and shake their heads in a superior fashion while making an ad-lib condescending comment about fandom.

Will you be there this year, Joe? Should I bring my sock puppet with me?

Nah, I was lucky enough to go out as a guest of Warner Bros last year, which was a lot of fun, but I don't think that invite will happen twice.

Looks like the only tickets available for Comic-Con are for Thursday and Sunday now.

They seem to be rolling out the schedules.

Edit: Or not. Looks like they've been pulled down and word is out that they weren't final at all so I've removed the panels I'd posted to.

Soon, though. Time to get ready to make the grid of all the various panels I want to see.

                      I will be there!

(Hey everyone, haven't been here in a while, but it's that time again!)
Almost didn't buy my tickets back in March due to budget issues and having to move, but where there's a con, there's a way.
Hey Jan do we want to repeat our lunch date at the sandwich shop from last year? Of course, we'll be missing a few people...but we can put straws on the seats in their honor. hehehe.

Given what's happened in the past year with JMS, I wouldn't want to miss what he might say this year. Abso-frickin-lutely!
Who knows, he might be getting power-player status at the con now! We can give him a rock star welcome now and he deserves it even more.

I'd love to do the lunch thing again, PMvanova! Glad you'll be able to make it. Unfortunately, Jon won't be there this year but I don't think we've heard whether DougO might be. I'll bet we'll probably manage to find a few others.

The Thursday schedule has been posted officially now.

The only thing specifically listing Joe is the Screenwriting panel at 11 am. He may also turn up on the DC Nation panel as well later in the day.

Questions that you've always wanted to ask? Creative blocks bugging you? Wondered what the H*O*L*L*Y*W*O*O*D life is really like? Show up and get answers to those questions. This no-holds-barred talk is moderated by J. Michael Straczynski. Room 5AB

6:00-7:00 DC NationùDC Senior VP/executive editor Dan DiDio hosts this gabfest with Keith Giffen (Reign in Hell, Ambush Bug: Year None), Geoff Johns (Action Comics, Green Lantern), Brad Meltzer (DCU: Last Will and Testament), and some of the top talent in the industry, talking and teasing upcoming stories! Definitely a lot of stuff happening on Thursday, they are starting panels at 10 am (doors open at 9:30 am) and they have more panels in the evening.

Don't know if I'll have time for lunch any of the days. I definitely want to catch the Doctor Who/Torchwood panels starting at noon on Thursday.
