  • Who would you like to see JMS collaborate with?

I hope this is in the right place Jan.

As above, forget the rumours and how likely something is to actually really happen, who would you like to see JMS work with on a project.

I was reading something that mentioned Stephen King today, and I started to wonder if he and JMS put their heads together what would they create?

So my thread. Who would you like to see JMS collaborate with?

Oooh, fun! And this is a good place, Susitcha.

Okay, the obvious one would be Joss Whedon.

Perhaps less obvious would be Robert Hewitte Wolfe.

And practically obscure is Rupert Holmes (yes, the one who wrote the Pina Collada song) who created and wrote a wonderful little show called 'Remeber WENN' about a 1930's radio station. He's more known for music but he's done lots of other things, too.

    Next?

I hate to play devil's advocate here, but as somebody with 50-60 King books on my shelf, I'm not altogether sure the two styles would mesh that well, but that's just my opinion.

I remember JMS telling me some years ago that he would love to work with Joss Whedon. Again, I'm not sure it would be an ideal partnership, but it's certainly an intriguing idea.

I think if JMS and Joss Whedon were able to work together I would think I had died and gone to heaven

I think the potential conflicts within the collaboration are what would serve to take both in surprising and exciting new directions.

I would've liked to see the cooperation with Chris Carter come to fruition. I think the mystery/sci-fi crossover field still has potential to be explored.

Thinking along the mystery lines, I would love to see what he and Rob Thomas could create.

Joss Whedon is the first name on the tip of my mind too. I also think George Lucas could be interesting; he's got the big machinery to produce a big story and jms has the storytelling skills to write a good story, throw in a good director and you've nearly got a magic potion of storytelling.

As related to mystery and thrillers/crime series (another field JMS has some experience with), there was also this woman, Cynthia Saunders, who created and wrote about 80 episodes of the mystery-thriller series "Profiler" in the 1990s. While the series went downhill from season 3 onwards, the first season I thought was great stuff. Unfortunately I've no idea what Mrs. Saunders does or where she is these days.

If George Lucus was smart he would get JMS to run his Star Wars live action tv series. It'll never happen, but it would be perfect.

And Jan, I also really liked Remember WENN. Sad that the series will probably never hit home video. Hope I'm wrong.

It's probably blasphemous but I'd love to see him work with Ronald D. Moore.

Also, what JMS and George R. R. Martin could cook up together would undoubtedly be fantastic.

I'm right in the middle of discovering the works of George R. R. Martin myself, and I believe JMS would add that slight touch of humor and wit they - to my taste - lack. I'm not sure this works the other way around, though... I can't for the life of me think of anything profitable Martin could add to JMS's way of building a storyline or breathing life into complex characters. Not that I don't appreciate Martin's. I'm definitely hooked on A Song of Ice and Fire these days. Then again I'm not sure about the match.

                        What about Don Bellisario ?

Not sure why you would think that would be blasphemous, especially since RM highly respects JMS and was inspired by B5 and JMS' work when he did BSG.

I read once in one of RM's blogs that he got to share a stage with Harlan Ellison and JMS at a con and how he was so intimidated and honored at the same time to sit up there with the likes of those two.

I, too, would like to cast my vote for a JMS/Joss Whedon team-up. Those two would make wonderful worlds together. I would've also liked to see what the JMS/Chris Carter project would've been like. I hope they still get the chance to do something together one day.

There was a time when I wanted to see JMS run the live action SW series, but not now that I've read that Lucas is basically pre-writing all the scripts from his story. Don't think there would be much for JMS to do and given his history with controlling entities over him, I don't think the match would go very well.

I would love to see JMS write a script for Spielberg, perhaps even his "Interstellar" project. Given that JMS is now traveling in those circles with great praise, it is a possibility.

Other than people I would like to see JMS team up with, there are universes and projects I would love to see him on, such as the afore mentioned "Interstellar" as well as seeing JMS get a crack at one of the new, upcoming Star Trek scripts (post the new revival if it goes well since it seems like JJ and crew will be leaving it in a place where JMS would fit in well).

Most of all though I want to see JMS work with JMS on a new Lost Tales.

I am once again going to throw out my suggestion of JMS and Spider Robinson collaborating for a television adaptation of the Callahan's Crosstime Saloon stories- It's CHEERS meets the TWILIGHT ZONE!

So do I, Flynn. Thanks to AMC's stealth scheduling there are a number of episodes that I missed.

Frulad, I think an anthology series of Callahan's would be great. Much as I love his work, though, I don't think Spider could begin to keep up with JMS's level of output.
