  • A funny old quote from JMS

"I've also made no secret of my sense that, should B5 run its full five year course (and assuming the side-story doesn't go, which I would not exactly count on)...I plan to get out of TV. By that point, I would have said pretty much everything I want to say in TV, and it's time to get out, buy a small house somewhere outside London, and spend the rest of my years writing novels, which is kinda where this all began. (I've had 2 novels, 1 anthology, and a bunch of short stories published, as well as 500 or so articles.) "

    So...what happened? lol

He...still had stories to tell? I'm glad he didn't get out of TV altogether. I'd've hated to have missed out on Jeremiah!

I think someone made him an offer he couldn't refuse so he did Jeremiah. I cannot say for sure what the motivation for The Legend of the Rangers was.

Plus, he sort of is out of "TV" in that TLT isn't a TV project per se.
I believe that when we leave a place, part of it goes with us and part of us remains. Go anywhere in the station, when it is quiet, and just listen. After a while, you will hear the echoes of all our conversations, every thought and word we've exchanged. Long after we are gone .. our voices will linger in these walls for as long as this place remains. But I will admit .. that the part of me that is going .. will very much miss the part of you that is staying.

Don't forget, though, that Rising Stars is still a possibility (after Heroes has its run) and 'Borrowed Lives' was still in development the last we heard also.

And not to forget Crusade!!! I guess he had no plans for a spin-off when B5 started ^^

Do you think "Rising Stars" would be perceived as a "copy" of "Heroes". Mind you, I appreciate the differences and I know that Rising Stars came first, but I was just wondering if, since it wasn't first to market if that might be a negaitve for getting it produced.

BTW, Whyruss, I think the side story mentioned was "Crusade".

Yeah..Rising Stars isn't viable as a TV Show now, I think, unless they changed a lot drastically to differentiate it from Heroes. Then again, when I first saw 4400 I thought "RISING STARS!" so who knows. I think it may work best as a mini-series at this point. Assuming the Sci-fi channel still exists in a year lol.

And the side story definitely lends itself to Crusade. I'd gather that's what he meant.

We still did get Jeremiah though. I hope JMS comes up with another show at some point anyway.

Or maybe....BABYLON 6!!!!! Starring Captain David Sheridan!!! Security Chief G'Quar, the first Narn to join Earthforce... an ambassador from a newly discovered Android species named Datum. First officer will have to be Zach (so we can keep some interest of people from the last show coming over).

              Oh no! Sorry..story idea.!!!

Of course, then we can do a babylon 5 series about a ship that gets lost in hyperspace and flung to the other side of the galaxy trying to find its way back home...

And then do a babylon 5 prequel series that ruins all the continuity thus far!

Oh..then we'll make a reboot movie staring Ben Affleck as Captain Sheridan and Angelina Jolie as Ivanova....

Jeez, they should pay me for this.

No, they should pay you for NOT doing this.

Well there goes continuity ... This is the story of the last of the Babylon stations. The year is 2258, the name of the place is Babylon 5

The Optimist: The glass is half full
The Pessimist: The glass is half empty
The Engineer: The glass is twice as big as it needs to be

You could always call it Charlie 6.

This counterpoint quote may be of interest here, where he is asked exactly what it would take for him to stay in the tv business:

"If I could ask JMS one question and get a complete and truthful answer, I
                      think it
would be: "What would it take to convince you *not* to retire from
                      television after
                      B5?"

                      1) An anthology show.

                      2) A B5 spinoff that would be a complement to, not a capitalization upon,
                      the primary B5 series.

                      3) Something that would be as revolutionary for TV as the 5-year arc
structure, a project which could change the way TV is done, technically
and story-wise. If you can't top the last thing you did...don't do it.

I'd almost say TLT actually qualifies for all 3.

We're not worried about continuity! This is Star Tr-...err..Babylon 6!

And you're right Shab, TLT definitely qualifies as all three.
