Since no one else has made a topic yet...I'll do my diligent duty of posting the JMS post

Post production took longer than expected, but I now have the final CDs
with the finished show on hand...so now CBC can schedule it.

Sorta...well, there was...then there was this hard disk crash (btw,
nothing from that drive can be recovered, just got the bad news today).

I was really looking forward to his book..which I forget the title and I always try to bring up in the groups. It was listed in his bio for the JMS Unplugged book. Okay..I remember now, it was called "The World On Fire." So I guess we're not gonna get to read that one any time soon.

Though I'm excited for the Apocalypse Al bit. His radio dramas are pretty good. In case anyone hasn't heard some of them, he did this one for the sci-fi channel a few years back http://www.scifi.com/cityofdreams/pr..._episodes.html So I'll be buying the Al cds when they come out.

    If ever.

I just can't imagine losing something of the magnitude of a novel in progress. It's just incredible. I only hope that the rest of his recent completed work is on his laptop or that he can recover it from others to whom he might have emailed it, such as his comic scripts. But works in progress? Wasn't there a play he's been working on for quite a while as well as the novel? So sad...

Hasn't he ever heard of backups ...

For all we know, he had a backup system that failed. That recently happened to us at work. The system never gave us any indication that the backups that were performed faithfully every night didn't work for *eight months*. Thankfully we found out before disaster.

I'm wondering how much work this impacts. The novel probably, comics...scripts? Yikes. There's a play too? oh no!

It sounds like the novel is gone. I know he's been working on a play for some time now. Ditto the B5 graphic novel. Not to mention current projects. SOME of it, or early drafts, might be on his laptop since he seems to have been traveling a fair amount lately but I don't think that this can be anything but a major loss for him and, by extension, us.

And that's just the work. What about email? Photos? All of the many personal things that we tend to keep on our computers these days. It's a real shame.

Oh yes. I don't really keep many of those on my comp myself so I don't think about it. But JMS seems like a packrat type..

I was very dissapointed to see that his novel had been cancelled as his others have been of very high quality.

Unfortunately, it wasn't cancelled. It was lost in a computer disaster along with who knows what else.
