Oh my. Hard to believe I didn't visit this until last night.

At JMS's autographing table on Friday was a small box of cards and a note to take one. They were business-card size versions of the 'Never Surrender Dreams' postcard that came as a gift with Volume 7 of the script books. On the back was the URL above for the Never Surrender Dreams website and I finally got around to visiting it.

The first page is Pure JMS At His Best. For those who've been asking for him to release what he's written for the fictional Foundationist faith, we get a sample here. It would be wrong to repost it here so do yourself a favor and go read it.

The next page explains how popular the items offered with the 'Never Surrender Dreams' sentiment were and links us to the new Never Surrender Dreams store. With Cafe' Press' new '5 items for 5 bucks, they've added some smaller items like single buttons and single magnets. My new favorite, though, is the framed tile. Nice of them to have framed it it my favorite wood.

Since I've been avoiding the Dealer's Room here at the con, there may just be a few somethings I'll be able to afford once I get home.

Thanks, Jan - I didn't even know this existed. One of us ought to post it on the mod...

All done. I figured I might as well get some use out of the thread I'd started that didn't show up on my newsreader until after I'd posted all of the JMS news on the hijacked thread.

I was looking around the NeverSurrenderDreams.com store this morning. I'll be getting the framed tile (as soon as they're back in stock) and at least one magnet. But it was when I was looking at the framed print, I realized why all these things looked so familiar.

Any guesses? We've seen the plain black text on white background before.

And have you read the Foundation text yet? I want every parent I know to read that and engrave it on their eyelids.

Nope, I have no idea what you mean. Hint, please?

They were in the background and their purpose was to encourage certain behavior.

I certainly heard G'Kar's voice when I read it.

I may have misled y'all by accident. We've never seen this particular saying on the show, just an extremely similar style.

Either Night Watch or PsiCorps used that method, didn't they?

... and could you tell the moderator to put this in the proper thread :P (there goes my memory again , ya know, the one with the quotes we had to guess at)

Nah, 'Name the Episode' was guessing quotes, not like this-guessing a resemblance between something real and something in the show.

Anyway, you're right, Spoo Junky. In 'The Corps is Mother, The Corps is Father' we saw sayings in the background like 'Obey' and 'Trust the Corps' and 'Maternis, Paternis'. As I recall, they were white backgrounds on white walls with black lettering which is why they reminded me of the 'Never Surrender Dreams' framed print. A *much* nicer sentiment this time, though!

Well, that's why I had no idea what you were talking about. Being the font geek that I am, I know that in "The Corps is Mother, The Corps is Father," they used a font called Village, so for something to remind me of those signs, they'd have to be in Village. Village is easily recognizable (it's sometimes called France - that's the pay version of the font) because it's the font used on all the signage in "The Prisoner."

So from where I sit, all white signs with black text are not created equal. ;-)

There was a really quick flash of a subliminal message to "Trust The Psi Corps" that was during a Psi Corps advertisement in season two's "And Now For A Word".

Well, it wasn't actually a subliminal message, although it was intended to look like one. JMS submitted the episode with the subliminal bit, and the network (or the censor? can't remember the story and don't have the energy to look it up right now) rejected it because subliminal ads are illegal. So, instead of two frames per second, which is officially subliminal, they bumped it up to three frames per second, which is legal. (Or maybe it was one frame/second bumped up to two frames/second; I'm sure Jan or Joe will remind me of how wrong I am! <g>)

As I recall, JMS already knew that he wouldn't get away with a real subliminal message and checked to find out what the legal length of one was. They told him two frames so he made his 'subliminal' Psi Corps ad three frames.

Thanks for the episode name, VL. I knew it wasn't The Corps is Mother/Father but I couldn't for the life of me remember which it was.
