Next week three jms comics hit the stands, the third (and best of the
first batch) issue of "The Book of Lost Souls," which I'm very happy
with, the next "Fantastic Four" issue, and the next "Supreme Power:
Hyperion" issue. It's sort of an all-jms-all-the-time thing (which
would have to be the most boring network on television, but there you
    are).

In addition to the other books I'm doing for Marvel, I'm set to do two
more mini-series in 2006, neither of which I can discuss at the moment.

Also, now that the CBC strike is over, "The Adventures of Apocalypse
Al" has been picked up again, and we're looking to do the voice tracks
in February. The 20 five-minute radio drama episodes should air a few
months thereafter, to allow time for post and publicity and the like.
I believe it will thereafter show up on BBC Radio, Radio Ireland, the
US market, and a number of other places before ultimately being
    released on CD.

It would seem that everything is now in place for the TV series that
hired me as show runner to go ahead, and I'm now starting on the first
script, which is due late January. Other writers have also been
quietly put to work. I don't want to say too much else about this
because there's still one last detail that needs to be ironed out at a
much higher level regarding the venue and the like, and I've had too
many things that were 99% go sideways at the last second for me to not
    approach this like a Lucy-and-the-football situation...so we'll see,
but at the moment, things look like they're moving ahead.

As for the other series, the one I created, I can say this much now:
it's been purchased for development by Disney's Touchstone Television,
and we will be bringing it out to the networks this coming June at the
    start of development season.

Two different studios are currently in negotiation to pick up the film
rights to "Midnight Nation," and another studio has offered to pick up
"Rising Stars" for a series for next year, but we'll see where that
goes...not all options go anywhere. "Dream Police" is now also in
development with another studio, and I've turned in a detailed outline
for the feature. They're now looking to pair up the material with the
right director so they can take it out formally to the film
    marketplace.

WB has begun making inquiries here about doing a B5 DVD trivia game,
but that's still very much in the preliminary discussions stage, so
we'll see. (This would mainly utilize existing footage from the series
and TV movies.) I've also bee consulting with them about the coming
debut of B5 on AOL in January, and several related areas.

Volume 3 of the B5 script books (which got a great review on
www.cinescape.com) will hit around the first week of January. Because
there's SO freaking much material in this one -- an 18,000 word intro
plus 30 pages of memos PLUS all the scripts -- we've had to push the
photos to volume 4, or risk making something so large that it might not
come out right. This is my favorite so far, the most personal in many
ways, the funniest, and the most informative on behind-the-scenes
stuff. I'm nearly done with the volume 4 intro, which I like, but v3
remains my favorite so far. We should be able to debut new volumes
around the first week of every month, so all 12 of the remaining 14
primary volumes would be finished by next December.

    Convention-wise, in March 2006, I think I'm slated for a convention in
Hungary, work schedule permitting, and the convention in New Zealand in
October 2006. Other conventions include World Con in Anaheim in
August, San Diego Comic Con in July, and Heroes Convention in North
    Carolina in June.

There's other stuff as well, but those are the high points for the
    moment.

Good heavens does JMS ever sleep. I got tired just reading all the thinkings he has on the go.

And naturally, the thing I'm most looking forward to is the B5 DVD trivia game. You just KNOW he's going to have an entire section - the biggest - devoted to Jane.

      Oh, a fanboy can dream.

Keep dreaming .I have a nagging question for you Omaha what is your fascination with the charcater of Jane ?She never appeared at any length of time to establish any character traits of what not.And your not the only who has her fingers crossed that the B5 dvd trivia game goes forward.

Ok, I'm gonna feel like a fool asking this, but... who's Jane?

            There's a pic of her.

Maggie Egan starred as Jane Nolahznahm, the Senior ISN Anchor on Babylon 5, continuing the role into the spin-off series, Crusade (making her the longest-running continuing on-screen character in that universe).

She first appeared in "Midnight on the Firing Line" delivering the news about the election with Marie Crane and Santiago, continuing until Clarke's forces broke into the network broadcast facilities and took Jane, Rick, Bill, and others hostage ... some were interogated, even killed.

She was replaced almost immediately by Alison Higgins, aka Hix, who continued as the main anchor until "Endgame", when she was returned to the air. "Hello, I want to welcome back our viewers. We've been gone a long time ..." and continued right through the end of that series, in "Objects at Rest", delivering the news about Sheridan and Delenn going to Minbar.

She was also brought onto Crusade for two episodes. We all know she would have received MUCH more airtime, had the series continued. Damn TNT.

And to Satai Delenn's question about my fascination with her. Well, we all have our favorites, don't we?

I didn't pay much attention to her, as she was "just" an anchor in the beginning, and I was looking at the arc and all that ... It wasn't until Clarke's forces kidnapped her ... with the guy coming onto the set, the camera pulling back to reveal more of the ISN set, and her basically breaking character, the ceiling falling, and the "Oh, shit!" factor, that I really noticed her at all.

Then they brought her back, and what is probably my favorite moment in the entire series, "Endgame" when she's returned to the air. That cemented it for me right there ... My favorite character. Since then, I've gone back and re-watched, and re-watched, and re-watched, and I have come to the realization that the entire series is about Jane.

            Don't give me that look.

We wouldn't know squat about the elections if not for her. She gives everyone else their motivation. When did Sheridan and B5 break away from Earth? When she was kidnapped, that's when.

What was Sheridan's motivation for attacking Earth? Was it to get rid of Clarke? Well, yes. As a side thing. His real motivation was to free Jane, if she was still alive. Just imagine his relief at finding her alive, as well as her fellow journalists.

It's all about Jane. That's why.

Yeah, but did you see what was happening to her in Crusade? She was getting old, that's what!

Exactly. Jane No Last Name = Nolahznahm.

Sorta. If you stand on your head, look at it in a mirror and squint.

Isn't there a story about that, Omaha?

She has a cd available called "Out of This World", which features sci fi swing/jazz music (it works). She does a bit introducing each song, in character as Jane. The last song, "Maggie's Crusade" is one she wrote, set to the theme song of the original Star Trek, in which she says her character's name is "Jane, no last name" ... and there has been speculation that she is such a famous celebrity that she just goes by Jane, as some do today (Cher, Ahnold, etc).

It should not surprise you to know that I have both versions of the cd. The one everybody can get, and a limited edition version with 3 songs. Limited meaning there were 5 copies ever made, and she gave me one ... and called me her "Number One Fan". *basking in the Glory that is Maggie/Jane*

And old? You DO remember that Crusade was set over 4 years after the last season of B5, right? Every character changed appearance over time, just as Jane did.

Yeah, but she got gray 'sideburns'. I know, it was just all that capturing and torture and then the plague...just one thing after another, huh?

I was browsing over JMS's comments for upcoming volumes it looks like we may know at least part of the reason MOH left the show and hopefully it will end the speculation once and for all.

I want to learn more about why Michael O'Hare (Commander Sinclair) left
                          > the show after the first season. I am guessing that that information
                          > MAY be in either Volume 2 or Volume 3 of the scripts books, since those
                          > books have scripts and info on the season one finale and the beginning
                          > of season two. I am on a budget and want to buy the book that contains

                          > Please let me know which book that this information is in (Vol. 2 or
                          > 3), if it is included at all. I think it would be really interesting to
                          > know the truth about why he left (it seemed to come out of left field,
                          > at the time). Thanks.
                          >

The issue is discussed at some length in volume 3, which is the longest
                          intro/commentary yet.

The cynical me is pretty sure that if JMS says exactly the same thing as he's said for the past 11 years, people will still insist that he's covering something up. If he actually adds any information we haven't seen before they'll scream that he's been lying to us all this time.

"Either way, does not look good for poor 'Joethras'."
