  • Spider-Man crossover story

The current scuttlebutt appears to be that Peter David is writing a 12 issue crossover story that will dominate the 3 main Spidey titles (including ASM) for the next four months.

Not being a reader of the other titles, does anyone know which comics are involved and, more importantly what issue numbers, so that I can look into getting the whole arc?

    Cheers,
The Optimist: The glass is half full
The Pessimist: The glass is half empty
The Engineer: The glass is twice as big as it needs to be

Here's Comic Book Resources an and artical about what's happening as it was discussed at the recent WW Chicago panel. Each Spidey title (Amazin, Marvel Knights and Friendly Neighborhood) will be written by one writer for one month so JMS will write all three one month, Peter David one month and the third writer (whose name I can't remember) will do a month. I don' know what order it will be in. The event is titled "The Other".

I've told my comic shop I want this even though I generally only get the JMS titles.

      Thanks Jan,

I'll take a look at that link. That's what I told my comic store too - but they want me to quote them the specific issue numbers ... hence my question.

My comic guy just asked the entire store (it was Wed. so lots of people were there reading) and one of them came up with the title so he added that to my pull sheet.

          spider-man crossover

Reginald Hudlin is the third writer of the Spider-Man crossover, Jan. I know this site is all about JMS (big, big fan), but Hudlin is currently writing the Marvel Knights Spider-Man title. Hudlin totally understands the characters and has me constantly giggling throughout my read. His stint on the title will be short as he has been named the head of programming at BET (Black Entertainment Television).
It's unfortunate that G's Hair's comic shop lacks in customer service. I can tell my comic shop guy that I want the Spider-Man crossover, his response: "Okay." The comic shop receives a solicitation from Diamond that has all the info. They should order what you want, and you shouldn't have to (well, if you really want to) find out what specific issues he has to order; they have all the info. I'm spoiled over here in Oregon; my comic shop is really good about informing me about titles and subjects because they pay attention to what I read, they recommend comics based on that.

I will work to elevate you, just enough to bring you down. Why can't we drink forever? I just want to start this over!" TOOL

Thanks for the information, manwithnoname. I'm not as 'up' on other comics and writers as I'd like to be. I'll look forward to Reginald's month, now. And don't be shy about mentioning other writers. Heck, I didn't even realize until recently that Peter David was writing a Spidey title-that's how out of the loop I am.

My guy knows that for now I'm mostly interested in JMS's stuff but little by little I'm branching out. I've picked up some of Fiona Avery's minis and I've got the Serenity mini on my list now. Guess I'm just afraid of commitment.

BTW, does anybody know of a decent comic site online where I won't end up wanting to chew nails? I tried hanging out over on the Marvel Universe newsgroup but left when things got so poisonous over 'Sins Past' (which I loved for the Peter/Gwen angles). Silver Bullet seems to be on a 'we hate everything and particularly JMS' kick from what I've seen. Any suggestions?

One that I'm a member of is Superherohype. It's a site that focuses on comics, tv shows based on comics, movies based on comics, and the respective games. Of course, they have forums to the non-comic movies, tv shows, games, and a "hub type" area from topics ranging from "Poll: Theory Clash-Evolution vs. Creation" to "Poll: If you found a human butt in the woods, what would you do", and the ever important "Poll: Would you put your brain in a robot body".

"...when things got so poisonous over 'Sins Past'..."
that's the MAIN reason i haven't participated in any chat or newgroups, highly vitriolic posts. in the latest wizard comics magazine alex ross said, "Once I saw the Gwen Stacy thing, I got rid of my entire run from the issue he took over. It's not that I'm so in love with Gwen Stacy, but if you don't know a character that much, you have no right to manipulate them to that degree."
i got really mad when i read that. i know there are people out there that disagree vehemently over 'Sins Past,' but reading that a professional in the comic industry has those feelings just REALLY pissed me off. i can understand if you disagree or not like a storyline, but rids his/her entire run of that writer is ridiculous.
i've read fiona avery's stuff. she's a solid writer. however, i don't want to sound insulting, but her writing is not my cup of tea. on the other hand, people enjoy her writing, and she's a good writer. i may not enjoy a writer's work, but i can still see/say they have talent.

Agreed. Is it any wonder that comics fans have a public perception of being less than mature when they act like pouting, spoiled, mean little kids? And ironically, it recently came out that the Norman Osborne aspect wasn't even JMS's idea, it was (I believe) Joe Quesada.

I just noticed that I mistyped when I mentioned liking 'Sins Past'. It was the Peter/MJ relationship parts that I liked a lot (I don't care who or what anybody had sex with a gazillion (or however many years it is in 'Marvel time') years ago). That MJ admitted to Peter that she was still conscious of his continued love for Gwen and sometimes afraid of losing him was something I *never* expected to see in a comic.

Exactly. I sampled 'No Honor' and it wasn't for me. A few other things were fine and I'm reading her first book, 'The Crown Rose' right now and it's really good.

"...her first book, 'The Crown Rose'..."
as in prose novel? if so, then i'll check the library for it.

Yes, indeed. Almost 450 pages of prose, in fact. I'm almost finished with it now.

Silly question here, what exactly is a "prose novel"?

As opposed to graphic novel. A valid question since this is the Comics forum and Fiona's been known for doing comics since the end of B5.

Ms. Avery has a book out? I got a crapload of books to read. I'm still working on Musashi (on pg. 377 of 970), then I got Battle Royale on my plate, and I haven't mentioned Del Rey's excellent collections of Conan the Cimmerian and Solomon Kane by Robert Howard. I'll probably tackle Avery's book oh, in a couple months.
