  • Top 8 Non-Industry Comic Writers

    JMS is #3

    Notable Work: Babylon 5

Comic Credits: Amazing Spider-Man, Rising Stars, Supreme power

Why He Made the List: A very divisive writer but for my money he has had a great impact on the comic industry. His run on Amazing Spider-Man brought an updated take on the wallcrawler, introducing the paradox of the spider itself giving Peter his powers as opposed to it being irradiated and passed those spider-like abilities onto him. The debut of Ezekiel, Morlun and the Spider totem was ballsy writing from the Hollywood scribe. Moving on to an update of the Squadron Supreme with the MAX line Supreme Power elevated Straczynski as a must-read writer. With his willingness to gender and race bend existing characters was something that brought a much needed evolution and diversity to Marvel.
No mention of his most recent work at all.

And that's a stunning picture of the back of my head!

By the way, who is sitting the woman sitting next to you?

Yeah, there do seem to be quite a few, don't there? Man, I needed a haircut!

Don't know? Heck I'm not even sure which year or panel this is? But I'm sure I was stunning in that purple!

Wow, these lists really are click-bait nonsense.
Captain John Sheridan: I really *hate* it when you do that.

        Kosh: Good!

That doesn't exactly expand the conversation...?

Sorry, I have a dislike for these kind of lists that really achieve very little and are just meant to generate traffic for the site.

It's like you said, it's all very ill informed and out of date information. I'm not sure JMS is 'non Comic book industry', at least not anymore, given the amount of work he's done for Marvel, DC, Image and Top Cow. I mean, perhaps 10 years ago, the statement would hold.

But he's a bit of a comics veteran now, even though he did make the jump from TV to comics.

Yeah, it think the point was more that it was people who'd made the jump from one industry into comics. But in JMS' case, he did the Trek and Teen Titans comics before he was a 'name' in TV.

I'd say he's very much a comics vet now.

As for click-bait, this site is positively restful with its lack up pop-ups!
