  • Dream Police News (SPOILERS)

No, not really any spoilers yet but might as well get ready.

If my calculations are correct, the first issue of the new Dream Police should be coming out in about a month. Joe's Comics just sent out heavy metal Dream Police badges to the retailers and deputized them.

JMS just posted that the cutoff date for your Local Comic Shop to order Dream Police #1 is coming up quickly. And just look at this trailer!

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

I may have to read this one on my iPad. Looks like the art's gonna be mind-blowing.

The scene with the cat was brilliant.
Captain John Sheridan: I really *hate* it when you do that.

        Kosh: Good!

To expand a bit....why I liked it. Even if you didn't read the original one, you get a sense of the universe (for lack of a better word) Joe and Frank live and work in, seemingly kind of an eternal 'now', which is much like dreams, right? There's obviously a number of denizens of the dream world, some more benign than others, and a hierarchy where some of the dream elements can advance.

This first issue gives you a good feel for the relationship between Frank and Joe. One has to wonder how much of that will change (if any) given the ending of this issue.

Sid Kotian's art is great. I can see the resemblance to his work on Apocalypse Al but it's not so similar as to be distracting.

I'm really disappointed that there was no audio drama for this one. I'd have loved to hear the take that Robin Atkin Downes et al would have done. I'm glad that we had as many as we did, but...yeah, I'm spoiled and I want it ALL, all the time!

And how cool is it that JMS wrote the "Joe's Counter" column from Mumbai?!

ETA: JMS answered my question about the audio dramas. It's as I feared.

Drat. Such a great idea. Wonder if it might have gotten more play without the QR code part and just posted the URL.

I thought the audio dramas were of such a high quality. It's such a shame they didn't get the number of listens they deserved. Made such a different way of reading the comic and set the voices in my head for the next issues when I read them.

That's a real shame about the audio dramas. I can understand why they might not have been awfully popular amongst comics fans. It’s perhaps not a format that this generation (or even my generation) are too attuned to. Also, arguably, you have the comic, which is intended as a comic. It functions fine in that medium and doesn’t really *need* to be presented in another format. I think people like to form their own voices for the characters, or at least I do. It’s why I always avoid film adaptations until I’ve read the book.

That said, it was definitely a cool promotional tool, and I thought it was rather unique. I do hope this doesn’t sour JMS on doing the Crusade audio dramas.

I also really enjoyed the audio drama specials for the first issues and was wondering why there wasn't a mention of one for this.

Anyway, I really enjoyed the first issue. It looks like another winner and I'm looking forward to subsequent issues. The art was great, the Dragnet dialogue was nice, and the whole premise looks fascinating.

I have absolutely no idea where my copy of the 2005 one-shot is, but I am pretty sure I must have read it at the time.

JMS linked to a nice review for Dream Police.

MAJOR SPOILERS reviews Dream Police #3 by J. Michael Straczynski for Joe's Comics and Image Comics, Inc.

I think their review system might be a little off. I gave the writing a solid 5 stars but it showed up as about 4.5 stars.

I'm liking Sid Kotian's artwork on these. There's enough strangeness in the scenes so you know you're 'not in Kansas' anymore but not so much that it feels like you've fallen down the rabbit hole.

I just read issues 2 through 5. The art is very nice and we are getting to know the dreamscape more and more. We are a little closer to getting some answers to the initial mystery and issue #6 should be a big one.

My knowledge of the subtleties and current trends in the use of English isn’t great, to say the least, especially when it comes to regional variations. But in that second panel on the last page shouldn’t that reply start with “me neither” rather than “me either”

Not 100% sure but I think 'either' is correct gramatically (as in "I haven't either") even though 'neither' is probably the more common slang version.
